No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 672

Cedric's expression was cold and stern. "You want to force Noelle to drop the charges at the police station, don't you?"

Ruth stiffened unnaturally. "Is there a problem with that? That incident had nothing to do with Samantha. She was just dragged into it."

"You should be saying that to the police and not pressure Noelle."

Cedric's voice carried an unmistakable threat as he continued, "Samantha has made too many mistakes and caused someone's death. It's time for her to face the consequences."

"Absolutely not, Ced. You've known Samantha since she was a child, and Emma even considered making her her goddaughter. Don't you remember?"

Ruth panicked after hearing Cedric's words. If he got involved, there would be no way to reverse the situation. Cedric threw off her hand. "It's time for you to leave."

"You can't do this, Ced. Our families have such a good relationship. You can't just turn your back on us," Ruth desperately pleaded.

Cedric forced her out the door and lowered his voice. "If you don't want the Merlock family to go bankrupt, you'd better keep your mouth shut."

Ruth's eyes widened in shock. Had Cedric guessed what she'd been about to say? Was he using the Merlock family's downfall to warn and stop her from telling Noelle about the car accident from years ago?

Ruth was pleased. It seemed she'd found Cedric's weakness, and perhaps she could use it to her advantage. But before she could say another word, Cedric slammed the door shut and cut her off completely.

Tilly stepped forward and gestured. "This way, please."

Ruth shot her a glare. "You told Cedric, didn't you? What a shame. Noelle will never marry into the Greene family, and you're betting on the wrong person."

With that, she stormed off. She had to rethink her strategy.

"I'll keep it in mind."

Noelle studied his handsome face seriously. It was no wonder ladies were all over him all the time. For some reason, she started feeling a twinge of jealousy toward those admirers.

Cedric panicked. "Noelle, Grandma didn't say that because she dislikes you. It's because—"

"Because of what?" Noelle looked up at him. Slowly, she reached out and cupped his face. Her fingers traced his brows to the bridge of his nose, then down to his lips.

Cedric stiffened as a deep panic crept into his heart.

Noelle's gaze lingered on his lips. "Are you hiding something from me?"
