Noelle looked at Ruth, who had just entered. The latter sure couldn't wait to get Samantha out of trouble.
Tilly stepped forward to block Ruth. "Apologies, but Ms. Liddell needs to get some rest."
"And who do you think you are to stop me?" Ruth arrogantly spat. She completely disregarded Tilly as nothing more than a lackey from a PR team.
Noelle glanced at Tilly and said, "Please step out. Mrs. Merlock and I need a private moment."
Tilly nodded. "Call me if you need anything, Ms. Liddell. Mr. Greene has given instructions."
Ruth watched Tilly leave the ward and turned back to Noelle. "I see Cedric has quite a few people watching you."
"It's just a PR team. They're basically my private assistants. There's no such thing as surveillance."
Noelle's calm response irritated Ruth, who sneered and snapped, "Have you been watching too many shows, Noelle? Have you never experienced such treatment?"
"Mrs. Merloack, have you forgotten? While the Liddell family might not rank high in Yasnia, we're still influential in Aldoria."
"Ha! With the level of the Liddell family's business, do you consider yourselves influential? Stop flattering yourselves."
Noelle's gaze turned cold. "From what I know, the Merlock family's business has struggled for years and is on the brink of bankruptcy. Without the Greene family's contracts and orders keeping you afloat, you would've long gone bankrupt, perhaps nowhere near the Liddell family's level."
Ruth's face changed instantly. "Where did you hear such baseless rumors?"
"Rumors? You know the truth better than anyone. That's why you've been so desperate to push for an engagement with Cedric."
"Drop that indifferent act, Noelle. Samantha was right; that expression of yours is hella annoying."
Ruth took a step forward and pressed, "You're just a woman being played for a fool; how dare you talk to me this way?"
The door swung open, and Cedric stepped in with a stern expression. His sharp eyes landed on Ruth as he walked up to the bed and said, "I heard you want to talk to Noelle in private. What exactly did you tell her?"
Ruth met his gaze and instinctively stepped back. "Nothing much. I just saw how troubled Emma was, so I came to advise Noelle not to stir up trouble."
"That's all?" Cedric's expression darkened as he took another step forward and forced Ruth toward the door.
Ruth grew flustered. "I was only doing this for Emma, Ced! How could you treat me like that?"
"Someone as selfish as you will never do something for my mom. You obviously have your motives; am I right? I know what you're doing!"
Ruth's legs went weak as she nearly lost her balance. "I-I don't know what you're talking about."
Could it be that Cedric knew what she was about to say?
