Frank looked at Donovan's defeated expression and felt a wave of frustration. "Donovan, I warned you that you would regret this."
"What good does regret do now?" Donovan shot back. If they could not recover the embezzled funds, Liddell Corporation's future was at risk.
Just then, Xenia hesitantly stepped into the room. "Donovan, Frank... I'm done."
She had overheard the heated argument from the dining room and knew her position in the Liddell family was becoming more unstable by the minute. Initially, she had considered fudging the sketch, but now, fearing retaliation, she had to take it seriously.
Frank was the first to approach, snatching the sketch from her hands. He studied it critically and asked, "This is Sean now? You're sure we'd recognize him if we saw him?"
"Absolutely. It's about 60% accurate," Xenia said eagerly, her tone dripping with false sincerity. "Frank, you have to believe me—I've always been loyal to the Liddells. I was forced into the embezzlement!"
Frank's expression remained icy. "That depends on how accurate this sketch is. I'll get Noelle to verify this." He snapped a photo of the sketch with his phone for insurance, just in case.
Soon after, Noelle came downstairs after being informed. She took the sketch, and her eyes froze for a second. It was one of the faces Cedric had flagged in his list of suspects.
In other words, Xenia was actually telling the truth this time—the little performance earlier had indeed paid off.
Frank leaned in, tense. "Noelle, what do you think? Is the sketch accurate?"
Xenia glanced sideways at Noelle, her heart filled with doubt again. Rumors said the Merlocks had paid off Sean to orchestrate the crash that killed Noelle's parents. If true, the real culprits were the Merlocks.
Noelle looked straight at Xenia. "That's why you need to convince Sean to come clean. If he tells us everything, then you'll be safe here with the Liddells."
Now that they had Sean's identity, the real challenge began: making him implicate the Merlocks. And Xenia, as his only daughter, was the key.
Xenia's face paled, thinking, "Why me? What twisted game is this bitch playing now?"
