When Noelle saw Laura's expression, she knew instantly she was being sarcastic. Otherwise, Laura wouldn't have gone on a shopping spree to vent her emotions.
Noelle stayed calm. "Go on, let's hear it."
She hadn't intended to talk with Laura. But what if Xenia's disappearance had something to do with the Merlocks? She had to hear Laura out to deduce whether Xenia was in their hands.
Laura stared at Noelle before smiling smugly. "I heard Xenia's gone missing."
Noelle's gaze sharpened. So, were the Merlocks really behind this?
"Noelle, I'm sure you know the driver isn't going to do as you say, even if you caught him. My advice is to give up, make peace with our family, and accept some compensation. Otherwise, you might end up with nothing."
Noelle studied Laura's expression carefully, unsure whether Laura was testing her. She replied coldly, "Laura, even if we go down together, I will never reconcile with the Merlocks. Stop dreaming."
Hatred burned in Noelle's eyes. The pain she had endured for all these years was thanks to the Merlocks. There was no way she was letting go of revenge.
"Very well. Let's wait and see." Laura pushed past Noelle and stepped into the lift. Once Laura was out of sight, Noelle reflected on her words. Something about it felt off. She turned to Mia. "Do you think Xenia's in their hands?"
"If you ask me, probably not. Based on how the Merlocks operate, if they had Xenia, Laura would've acted arrogantly and wouldn't be in such a bad mood." Mia hummed.
Noelle nodded. "You're right. I thought the same. But Laura clearly knows Xenia is missing."
"The Merlocks must've had someone watching your family. It was only a matter of time before the news got to them. There's no way to keep it hidden," Mia deduced.
Noelle pursed her lips. If they were keeping tabs on the Merlocks, then the Merlocks definitely had eyes on them, especially after what happened with Ruth's kidnapping. She wouldn't take that lying down.
