Noelle could feel the air around her and Cedric increasingly charging with tension.
Though Cedric usually treated her well and was always considerate and chivalrous, he'd never crossed any boundaries.
The only slightly intimate experience they'd shared was before she found out he was the heir to the Greene family. Back then, they'd briefly dated for a few days.
Since then, things between them had been more than just friends but not quite lovers. Cedric had always kept a respectful distance that never made her uncomfortable.
That was until she made a move on him once. Ever since that day, he'd gone wild and constantly preyed on her.
Noelle's mind flooded with embarrassingly vivid images, so she quickly stepped back to increase the distance between them. Then, she paused and said, "Actually, I don't really want to know."
Cedric saw her blushing and backing away. His eyes sparkled with amusement as he said, "Get in the car, and I'll tell you. Don't you want to let off some steam?"
Of course, she did. Noelle opened the car door and got in without hesitation. "Alright, talk. What's your plan?"
Instead of answering her question, he spun the car around and sped toward the Cantrell residence.
Noelle tensed. "Cedric, what are you doing?"
"Getting justice for you and telling the Cantrell family that I have your back."
"Are you insane? Stop the car right now!"
She hadn't expected him to go full-dramatic mode out of nowhere. Thankfully, the car screeched to a stop just in time.
Still rattled, she glared at him and muttered, "How did I not realize you were this…" She couldn't even think of the right word.
Cedric reached over to gently tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Are you worried about me?"
"I'm worried about myself. What if you drove through their gate and we died in a crash? I haven't dated yet!"
As soon as she said that, Cedric gently pinched her ear. "You've never dated?"
His eyes were dark, and Noelle immediately thought about the brief days when they'd been officially together.
Now, it was his turn to feel the uncertainty she'd once lived with.
Cedric looked at the fuming Noelle in front of him and sighed helplessly. He couldn't yell at her or even bring himself to act stern.
So, he compromised with a sigh. "Fine. I shouldn't have made such a joke. I just saw how mad you were and wanted to help you vent, but I'd never put you in danger."
With Noelle sitting in the passenger seat, there was no way he'd actually ram into the Cantrell residence's gate.
She finally calmed down and looked at him seriously. "You know how anxious I am right now."
"I do. I looked into Mia's whereabouts, and she's at the Cantrell residence. It probably won't help if you call the police."
Mia was technically safe at home, so it wouldn't qualify as a disappearance.
"But she's not free, and Donovan and Mrs. Cantrell are trying to force Ivy to sign a property transfer agreement in exchange for letting her go."
Cedric's expression darkened. "That's probably their only way to make money right now."
