Cedric felt a tickling feeling rising up to his throat, so he went to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of cold water to suppress his cough.
He sat alone on the couch and stared blankly at the plushie beside him. It was a gift from L Bistro, given out during a promotion when they went there for a meal.
Cedric grabbed at the plushie's face. The soft sensation of the pillow on his palm reminded him of Noelle's face.
He then laid down on the couch, his face unnaturally warm. He kept waking up to check the time, afraid that he would miss the schedule for her IV drip. It was a much better time compared to being tormented and kept up all night.
Noelle lay alone on the bed. She could not hear any sound from Cedric and had no idea whether he had already left or not.
She felt like she could hardly breathe. He had just admitted that he had approached her on purpose and treated her kindly out of guilt and a desire to make amends.
Her head became muddled from the fever. She actually wanted to ask how much of his feelings for her were real. She also wanted to ask if was trying to get her to spare Emma.
But when Noelle came face to face with Cedric, all she could feel was anger and the feeling of being aggrieved. Still, there was no point in throwing a tantrum.
Noelle stared at the ceiling, her mind a total blank. She eventually drifted off to sleep as she thought about the matter.
A long time later, Cedric walked into her room with slow and steady steps. Upon seeing that there was still some IV drip remaining, he decided to stay by her side.
He sat down and tried to reach out to touch her face several times, but in the end, he withdrew his hand every single time. When the time was up, he removed the IV needle for her, pressing a cotton swab against the needle's entry point.
At the same time, Noelle woke up. She instinctively tried to pull her hand back, and blood welled up from the puncture.
Cedric held her by the wrist and said, "Don't move."
Noelle looked at her wrist and began to recall about their first meeting back at her high school's infirmary. Back then, she had just been reborn into her new life and was riddled with a high fever.
She then suddenly wondered if Cedric had appeared in her past life as well.
Noelle looked up at the man in front of her. She recalled that he had also been working at the high school's infirmary in her previous life, but they had not interacted at all.
