Chapter 176 Left Out
Either way, it left Alfred feeling deeply unsettled.

He sat there with a dark look on his face, saying nothing, barely touching his food.
Regis and Nella didn’t pay him any attention, chatting freely between themselves.
They talked about everything, from history and geography to politics and travel at home and abroad.
Nella was like a walking encyclopedia, always able to pick up wherever Regis left off.
She never let his words fall flat.
Regis clearly enjoyed the meal.
By the time it ended, Regis and Nella were satisfied.
Alfred, however, sulked through the whole thing.
“Nella, I’m so glad I came back.”
Even as they left the restaurant, Regis still looked reluctant to leave.
“When you have time, come play a few games of chess with me. I met a great chess player in Gedwark and practiced for months. Next time we play, you’re not allowed to go easy on me.”
Nella paused for a moment, then smiled.
“So you noticed.”
Hearing that, the old man burst into laughter. “You think I’m senile? You gave me that many free moves. How could I not notice?”
Alfred, who’d been ignored the entire meal, suddenly couldn’t stand it anymore. He cut in shamelessly, looking at Nella.
“When did you ever play chess with Grandpa?”
Regis was terrible at chess, yet he loved playing it.
And before placing every single piece, he could think for ages.
No one liked playing with him, and no one had that kind of patience,
Alfred had only asked casually, just to insert himself into the conversation.
But as soon as the words left his mouth, Regis let out an annoyed snort.
“You spent all your time and energy on Zoey. Did you ever care about what your wife was doing? When she was spending time with me, you were off keeping Zoey company, weren’t you?”
Just mentioning it set Regis off again.

He snorted again, his voice forceful.
“And you still have the nerve to ask?”
Alfred didn’t say a word after being scolded.

But hearing Regis once again tie him together with Zoey right in front of Nella made his expression darken.
“Grandpa, I’ve told you many times already. I only think of Zoey as-”
“A sister you’re responsible for!” Regis cut him off impatiently.
“Alright, alright, I know. Just take care of your precious responsibility. When Nella gets so angry that she divorces you someday, I’ll find her someone even better.”
“Grandpa!”
Alfred seemed genuinely angered by that, his face sinking.
Just then, a middle-aged man finished parking and walked over.
“Mr. Regis, Mr. Alfred, Mrs. Keywood.”
It was Frank Stephens, Regis’s personal driver.
“Alright, Frank’s here to pick me up. I’ve got a chess date with a friend, so I’ll be heading off.”
Regis ignored Alfred’s sour expression and continued, “No need to worry about me. Take Nella back to the hospital.
“Nella, I’m leaving first. When you’re free this weekend, remember to come visit me at Keywood Estate.”
“Alright. Take care.”
After watching Regis leave, Nella finally withdrew her
gaze.
