No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 210

Chapter 210 She Heard It

But this time, Nella knew she hadn’t imagined those two cries.

“I heard it. I swear I did.”

She gripped Jasmine’s hand tight. “It’s nearby. I’m totally calm. That wasn’t in my head.”

Then she shouted again, facing the spot where she’d heard Marshal earlier.

“Marshal! I know you can hear me! It’s me, Nella, your sister! Marshal!”

The look on her face finally made Alfred realize something was seriously off.

But she looked so wrecked and frantic that he couldn’t even process it.

Two faint, shaky whimpers came from somewhere nearby.

The sound was so light it barely carried, but it was real.

Alfred’s head jerked up.

He’d heard it too.

It wasn’t loud, but it was raw and desperate, like something was trying to respond with what little strength it had left.

“I think it came from over here.”

He took off running and reached the edge of the alley, stopping in front of a storm drain.

The cover looked completely shut, sealed flush against the concrete.

That explained why they’d missed it. Nobody would’ve guessed a dog could be trapped under there.

Nella ran up behind him, not wasting time trying to figure out how Marshal ended up in a sealed drain.

Alfred had already yanked the cover off.

What he saw made his stomach drop. A golden retriever was pinned beneath the last rung of a weak-looking ladder inside the shaft.

His fur was soaked and filthy. The water had flattened it to his body.

The dog lay in a twisted heap, barely moving. His eyes were wide, full of panic and pain.

But the moment the cover opened, light hit his face, and those eyes flickered with life.

He tried to cry out again.

The whimpers grew a little louder, almost like he was calling out for help.

He even started to twitch, trying to get up.

“Marshal! I’m here! It’s alright, I’m coming for you!”

The drain opening wasn’t big, and Nella was bundled up in a thick coat. She started peeling it off, ready to go down.

But Alfred had already shrugged off his own coat and tossed it aside. Without hesitating, all six-foot-three of him dropped down into the shaft.

Nella didn’t even try to argue. She just wanted Marshal safe.

She crouched at the edge and leaned over the opening, her voice soft and shaky.

“Marshal, it’s okay. I’m staying right here with you.”

The dog’s eyes shifted toward her. The panic in them eased just a bit.

Alfred reached the bottom. The space was tight, barely giving him room to move his arms and legs.

The stench hit him hard.

His boots sank into filthy water that soaked straight through his pants)

The smell was thick with rot and chemicals. It burned his nose.

But he didn’t flinch. He knelt beside the trembling dog, and his expression softened as he leaned in.

He stroked Marshal’s soaked head gently and dropped his voice low.

“You’re okay, buddy. I’m your sister’s husband. I’m getting you out of here.”

Mason blinked. “What?”

He stared ahead like someone had just slapped him.

Nella’s husband? Since when?

Seriously, dude?

Mason bit his tongue so hard he nearly tasted blood.

Now was not the time. But once they got Marshal out, he was spilling everything. Especially the this so-called Nella’s husband had called Marshal a useless loser half an hour ago.
