Chapter 216 Nice Place
“This place is really nice,” Alfred said, trying to break the silence.
Nella gave him a quick glance. “Yeah.”
“With Marshal growing up here, I bet he’ll be a bright, cheerful boy.”
Nella didn’t respond.
Behind them, Mason and Jasmine exchanged a look.
Mason rubbed his jaw and gave a short grunt.
Jasmine turned to him, one brow raised.
“What now?” she asked, voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Toothache.”
Alfred’s awkward small talk made his teeth hurt.
Was that really his go-to move?
Seriously?
“Babe, did you see that?”
Mason leaned toward Jasmine, voice low.
“See what?”
She pulled back a little, clearly not in the mood.
Mason tilted his head toward Alfred.

“I don’t know if Marshal’s gonna grow up to be a happy pup, but that guy? He’s acting like a happy Golden Retriever.”
Jasmine didn’t say anything.
Her lips twitched.
Just thinking about Alfred scrambling for conversation made her want to laugh.
It was so off-brand for his usual icy rich guy persona.
Nella started wondering if he was possessed or something.
Why was he talking like that?
Alfred didn’t seem to notice her silence.

Chapter 216 Nice Place
His mood was way too good. He could deal with anything.
So he kept talking.
Finished
“You’re not saying anything. Does that mean you don’t agree? You think Marshal doesn’t like it here?”
Seriously?
Nella stopped walking and looked right at him. “Can you just be quiet for a second?”
Alfred fell silent.
He kept walking next to her, eyes forward. This time, he said nothing.
Mason whistled under his breath and leaned close to Jasmine.
“You saw that, right? Big happy pup just got his leash yanked.”
Oh dear God. Jasmine shot him a sharp glare.
“How about you shut it too?”
Mason deflated.
Now he was the one sulking.
Jasmine didn’t bother with him and walked faster.
“Hey, wait up!” Mason hurried after her.
They reached the building entrance just as a neighbor stepped up with a little girl in his arms.
When the elevator opened, everyone piled in.
Inside the small space, the smell coming off Alfred got worse.
The little girl peeked up from her dad’s shoulder and scrunched her nose,
She leaned in and whispered, “Daddy, it stinks in here.”
The dad shot a glance at Alfred, his expression tense.
Alfred caught the look.
His face shifted again-now even more expressions swam
A laugh slipped out from somewhere in the elevator. Alfred’s face turned stone cold as he whipped his head toward the source.
Just then, the elevator dinged.
The doors slid open. Alfred stepped out with Marshal in his arms.
