No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 218

Chapter 218 What Do You Mean

Jasmine let out a sharp, mocking laugh and shot Mason a look full of disgust.

Finished

“What do you mean, guys like me? You’re the only woman I married. Don’t put me in the same basket as those gits.”

Jasmine’s voice dropped cold as ice.

“Oh, should I thank you for that, then, Your Majesty?”

They kept their voices low, but Alfred and Nella heard every word.

Alfred glanced down at Marshal, curled up like a little angel in his arms. His mind wandered. If he’d actually married Nella for real, ditched that stupid contract, would he be holding his son right now instead?

The thought sucker-punched him. Guilt swelled hard in his chest.

He looked at Nella.

He knew she’d caught the whole exchange between Mason and Jasmine. Her face didn’t react, not even a twitch.

She just kept gently wiping down Marshal like none of it touched her.

Her eyes were lowered. Her hands never stopped.

Mason’s words had landed, though. Alfred could feel it.

If she’d heard that kind of talk before, maybe she would’ve held on a little longer. Maybe she’d have stayed hopeful. Maybe she would’ve kept reaching out.

But now? Even the part of her that used to cling blindly was gone. It vanished without a trace.

“All done.”

Nella’s voice snapped him out of it, cutting the thought clean.

She bent to grab the bowl of water at her feet and pushed herself up. But her legs were numb from squatting too long. She staggered.

The bowl tilted. Water flew.

Alfred moved without thinking. He dropped down and shielded Marshal completely. The dirty water splashed across Alfred’s head and shoulders, soaking him/

Everything went still.

Alfred froze. Nella froze.

Mason and Jasmine stood there silent.

Water dripped from Alfred’s soaked hair and ran down his face. He slowly lifted his head.

Chapter 218 What Do You Mean

Filttsted

He looked like a drenched stray dog left out in the rain.

Marshal looked more like a human than he did.

Nella hadn’t expected that. He could’ve dodged it so easily.

He didn’t have to end up like this.

She bit down on her lip. “Sorry.”

Alfred kept his head down, quiet. A few seconds passed. Then he stood up with Marshal in his arms, walked to the dog bed, and set him down gently.

He turned back to Nella. “Can I take a shower?”

She looked at his soaked shirt and dripping hair. She couldn’t bring herself to say no.

She pointed to the guest bath. “Down there.”

“Thanks.”

He flashed a quick smile and hurried off toward the bathroom.

Mason watched him go, his jaw tight. He finally snapped. “He’s full of it. He’s just using Marshal.”

He looked straight at Nella.

“You really don’t see it?”

She stayed quiet.

Of course she saw it. Alfred was being way too soft with Marshal.

This wasn’t the same guy who used to lose it just hearing the dog’s name.

It wasn’t about Marshal’s charm. She didn’t believe that. What, he was suddenly acting like this just to impress her?

That was even more ridiculous.

Alfred? Trying to win her over?

For what?
