Nella stared at the message for a few seconds, then set her phone down. She didn’t reply. Instead, she turned to the nearby intern and said, “Call in the next patient.”
Meanwhile, Alfred couldn’t focus on anything after sending that text.
He held his phone tightly, waiting for Nella to answer. It was the first time he’d ever asked her to lunch, and he was sure she’d say yes.
But after everything weird that happened last night and this morning, he wasn’t so sure
anymore.
“Mr. Keywood?”
The man across from him called his name a few times before Alfred snapped out of it.
“Sorry.”
“It’s fine. Mr. Keywood, are you feeling alright? You don’t look so good.”
The guy was walking on eggshells, scared to say the wrong thing.
Who would’ve thought that a project worth barely anything to Keywood Group would make Alfred, their big-shot CEO, show up in person?
That alone had the project director completely on edge.
For a company of their size, securing a project with Keywood Group was already a significant achievement. Nobody even dreamed the boss would show himself.

“I’m good.”
Alfred shook his head, stood, and said, “We’ll finalize the project like this. For anything else, work directly with Keywood Group’s team.”
“Yes, sir. It’s an honor to have you today. Please proceed.”
Only after Alfred left the building did the project director finally let out a long breath.
Sergio Stuart, the executive assistant tagging along, was equally stunned.
Alfred was buried in big deals every day. No one could figure out why he’d show up personally for such a small project.

Honestly, not even an assistant like Sergio should have been needed for that.
Did Mr. Keywood just wake up grumpy today?

Alfred kept glancing at his phone, obviously waiting for a call, which only made things feel weirder.
Who dares keep Mr. Keywood waiting like this?
Finally, Sergio asked, “Mr. Keywood, are we heading back to the office now?”
Seeing his phone remain silent, Alfred felt a tight knot grow in his chest, gnawing at him.
“Yeah. Let’s go
back.”
Once in the car, a heavy tension filled the space, making both the driver and Sergio sit straight, stiff as wires.
Through the rearview, Sergio noticed Alfred unlocking his phone and checking a WhatsApp chat. He stared at it for a long moment, then locked it again.
And a minute later, he did it all over.
Who’s the one who has captured your attention like this?
Sergio wanted to ask, but he didn’t dare.
Alfred looked cool on the outside, but his life looked rough.
Every part of him screamed at Sergio not to provoke him, or things could go very wrong.
As the car slowly passed Apex Medical University Hospital, Alfred finally said deeply, “Stop.”
The two up front didn’t get it, but the driver pulled over.
“You two go back.”
“Yes, sir.”
Watching Alfred stride through the hospital doors, the driver, Richie Dawn, finally broke the
silence.
