Chapter 233 Travel Plan
He remembered the travel plan Nella made for her Glacieroth trip.
Besides the northern lights and hiking, skiing had been on her list too.
This weekend retreat was his chance to finally give her that.

As for the northern lights, next time she managed to take a break, he’d bring her. Just the two of them. No distractions.
That thought made the corners of Alfred’s mouth lift.
He looked back at the snow resort proposal.
This was it.
After confirming the choice, he paused, then sent her a text.
“Are you on call this weekend?”
He waited a long time. No reply came.
He felt disappointed but didn’t send another message.
Nella didn’t see it until 5:30 p.m.
She’d just stepped out of the OR after a long procedure. After a brief pause, she replied.
“I’m off both days. I can handle Marshal myself, so you don’t have to worry.”
She hit send and walked into the locker room to change.
As soon as she zipped her coat, a message popped up from Alfred.
“I’ll drop Marshal off soon.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“You’re my wife. Stop being so polite.”
She stared at that one and frowned slightly.
Then she shoved her phone in her pocket and didn’t text back.
Traffic on the inner beltway was crawling. Cars were jammed all the way down the lanes.
Inside the Bentley, Alfred was still staring at his phone. Marshal lay beside him, chewing on a rubber ball.
Ever since he sent that “You’re my wife” message, she hadn’t responded.
He knew she hated that title. If he hadn’t pulled a few strings, she probably wouldn’t even allow him near her anymore.

Finished
He’d been trying to get close again, slowly and carefully, these past few days. But she hadn’t budged an inch
It just made him look even more pitiful.
He ran his hand down Marshal’s back and sighed again.
“What do I have to do to make your sister stop shutting me out?”
Up front, Richie gave him a side glance through the mirror.
Well, you could always drop to your knees and beg in the rain.
Too bad the sun was out. That play wasn’t on the table today.
After changing, Nella returned to her office and organized files for patients scheduled for surgery.
She figured Alfred would arrive soon. She didn’t want to make him wait at the gate or deal with parking. So she packed up and headed for her complex at East Manor.
As she neared the front entrance, she spotted Alfred’s Bentley rolling right through without stopping.
No gate pass. No security check.
She blinked but didn’t dwell on it.
Rules were for everyone else.
People like Alfred didn’t need permission to enter a regular neighborhood.
She brushed it off and walked faster.
He beat her there.
When she stepped out of the elevator, Alfred was already waiting at her door with Marshal in his arms.
