Chapter 236 Bad Memories
After Alfred finished talking, he finally noticed Nella looked a little pale.
She didn’t say anything back.
He frowned, a flash of worry showing in his eyes. “Nella?”
She blinked, finally snapping out of it. “What?”
“What’s going on? You don’t look okay.”
Nella tried to steady her breathing. Her chest felt like it might explode. “I’m fine.”
“You really sure? You look awful.”
Alfred didn’t buy it.
But Nella gave a sharp shake of her head. “I said I’m fine. Go home.
He hesitated. She clearly didn’t want him around, but he still felt uneasy.
“I’ll head out then. But if you feel sick or anything, call me right away.”
“Yeah. I heard you.”
She didn’t bother hiding how much she wanted him gone.
Before he could get another word in, she shut the door in his face.
Her legs were heavy like cement blocks. Every step felt like dragging dead weight.
Pinished
Her whole body strained just to move. She barely made it to the couch before collapsing onto the cushions.
When her thoughts cleared again, pain seared through her palm.
She looked down and saw torn skin. Her nails had ripped right through it.
That horrible panic from the snow hadn’t left her body yet.
She snatched her purse, yanked out her meds, and tossed them into her mouth. She didn’t even stop to grab water. She forced them down dry, throat burning.
She leaned back, eyes shut, chest heaving. It took a long time before that tight, suffocating pressure started
to ease up.
She pushed herself to her feet and walked to the window.
She opened it wide. A blast of freezing wind slammed into her face. Her body jerked from the chill.
It shocked her back to reality.
Almost there, Nella. Just hold on. Almost out.

Chapter 236 Bad Memories
Once the contract ended, she wouldn’t have to lie for Alfred anymore.
#9 Finished
The next morning, since she’d promised Alfred she’d join the company retreat, she didn’t sleep in.
She got up early and packed all of Marshal’s meds and supplies. While she was double-checking everything, her phone lit up.
“You up?”
She picked it up and typed back.
“Yeah. I’m up.”
“On my way. Brought you breakfast.”
“Thanks.”
She’d barely sent the message when the doorbell rang.
She looked over, eyes narrowing a little.
Who the hell was that?
Some of her coworkers lived in the complex too, but none of them ever dropped by. Especially not on a weekend morning.
Still frowning, she walked to the door and checked the camera.
“Alfred?”
She said his name out loud, brows pulling together.
Didn’t he just text her? It hadn’t even been a full minute, and he was already outside?
Still confused, she opened the door.
“Morning.”
Alfred stood there, all smiles, like nothing was weird.
Ever since he started needing her help, Nella had seen the change. He wasn’t cold anymore. He acted politely. He smiled a lot more, too.
And that only proved one thing. Keywood Group really was his whole damn world.
“My dad and Priscilla made these scones by hand. I bakel up a few. Try ’em.”
