Chapter 237 Scones
Alfred passed her the food container. He brought up his dad and Priscilla on purpose.
He knew his whole family treated Nella with kindness. He was the only exception.
If she knew the scones came from his dad and stepmom, she wouldn’t say no.
Sure enough, Nella accepted the container without pause and thanked him politely.

But the second she opened the lid, her expression changed. Inside were bright green spinach leaves that hadn’t wilted at all. The stew was still steaming, so hot the surface bubbled.
She’d figured Alfred had texted her just before showing up, as if he’d already been waiting outside.
But this stew looked like it had just come off the stove. Hmm…
It didn’t make sense.
This building didn’t let anyone past the lobby without a keycard. Every floor needed resident access.
But Alfred had somehow gotten upstairs before her yesterday when they brought Marshal back.
And this morning, Richie’s car rolled right through the gate as if he lived here.
She also remembered Alfred showing up super early yesterday to grab Marshal.
They’d stood near the entrance, and Richie’s car had pulled out from inside the lot, not from the road.
She turned toward Alfred, who was down on one knee, tossing a toy to Marshal.
Her tone was firm. “Elevators need keycards. How’d you get up here?”/
Alfred froze. His hand stopped mid-throw. His face didn’t move, but his eyes gave him away for a second.
He rubbed the bridge of his nose. He didn’t meet her eyes.
“I bought the unit across from yours yesterday morning.”
Nella blinked. “You got the one across from me?”
She looked genuinely stunned.
That unit still had people in it.
Two nights ago, when she came back to check on Marshal, she ran into that family in the elevator.
There was no way he closed that sale in a single morning.
Even with cash, the paperwork alone took longer.
She nearly called him out for lying.

Chapter 237 Scones
But facts were facts. He got up here without her card.
Alfred saw the doubt all over her face. He decided to just spell it out.
“I gave them ten times what it was worth.”
So basically, he paid them enough to pack up overnight.
Nella stared.
So this was what happened when rich people didn’t feel like waiting.

East Manor wasn’t exactly cheap, but it wasn’t a luxury spot either. Compared to Emerald Vista Bay or the Keywood estate, it was a joke.
It was far from Keywood Group HQ, too. Why the hell would he buy a place here?
She didn’t ask. It was his money. She gave a small nod and let it go.
But Alfred felt the awkwardness and rushed to explain anyway.
“I like the neighborhood. Thought I’d move in.”
He glanced at her, trying to read her face. She didn’t react, so he pushed on.
“It’ll be easier to get Marshal. I won’t have to wake up as early.”
She almost told him he could’ve just let Marshal stay longer at her place. But if he was planning to drive all the way to the Keywood office from here, the distance would double.
