No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 238

Chapter 238 Sounds Improbable

Finished

The complex looked fine. The lawn was trimmed, the halls were clean, and the staff kept things in order. But compared to somewhere like Emerald Vista Bay, it didn’t even qualify as luxury.

Could Alfred really settle for something this plain?

Then again, he did say the neighborhood helped raise a bright, happy boy.

Maybe Mr. Ice-Cold-Penthouse himself wanted to soften up into one of those bright, happy boys, too.

Nella nodded and stayed quiet.

She looked down and finished off her scones.

When she cleared the trash, Alfred asked, “You good? Want to go now?”

She nodded again. She glanced over and saw him already holding Marshal in one arm like it was nothing. With his other hand, he picked up the bag she packed for Marshal.

That bag had everything-his toys, his meds, his boots, all of it.

She only brought a small backpack for herself with her phone and a tissue pack.

She reached toward him with an uneasy look.

“I can carry Marshal’s stuff.”

He shook his head. “It’s easier this way. Let’s just go.”

It was still early. Most people were probably still in bed. The elevator was empty.

The mirrored panel above the buttons reflected both of them standing side by side.

Seeing that made her chest twist.

She thought back to the first few months after their wedding. They’d ridden elevators together back then.

She used to stand really close. Always careful. Always quiet.

She would sneak glances at the reflection, pretending they looked like any other couple.

A real couple. But that fantasy got chipped away every time he pulled back.

All that was left now was a sting she couldn’t shake.

That was what unrequited love felt like. Dry. Bitter. Sharp.

She didn’t notice Alfred watching her through the reflection.

He saw the change in her face. That flicker of pain. It hit him harder than he expected.

Chapter 238 Sounds Improbable

“What’re you thinking about?”

His voice pulled her back.

She blinked and shook her head. “Nothing.”

The elevator stopped. The doors slid open.

It was the same guy and the little girl from the other night.

The man lit up the second he saw them. He gave a big smile and nodded.

“Morning, Mr. Keywood, Mrs. Keywood.”

Alfred wasn’t the chatty type. He never warmed up to strangers. But the second the guy said “Mrs. Keywood,” something softened in his face.

That blank coldness cracked. A small smile showed.

“Good morning.”

He gave a polite nod and made small talk. “Is that your daughter?”

The man looked surprised to be spoken to. His eyes widened.

He nodded quickly. “Yeah! That’s my girl. Her name’s Olivia. Baby, say good morning.”

The kid was adorable. Big eyes, messy curls, sweet face.

She looked up at Alfred and chirped, “Good morning, mister!”

“Morning.”

His voice came out soft. His eyes were even softer. But his mind had already wandered.

He started picturing what his and Nella’s daughter might look like.

She’d have Nella’s eyes. Big, warm, and full of light. She’d smile just like her, too. Bright and sweet. She’d be perfect.

“Mister, is that puppy your baby?” the little girl asked.
