Nella frowned. She looked at Zoey, who seemed completely out of control, and spoke with a tired calm.
“Then go tell him. Go report me to him. Don’t stand here and waste my time.”
Zoey was choked by Nella’s steady, fearless tone.
The calmer Nella was, the more Zoey believed Alfred had been fooled by her.
In Zoey’s mind, Alfred must have taken Nella’s side because he was tricked. And Nella dared to speak so boldly only because she knew Alfred was backing her now.
“Ms. Mack,” Nella said flatly, “move. I’m in a hurry.”
Nella’s calm only poured fuel on the fire in Zoey’s chest.
“Nella, do you have no shame at all?!”
With a sharp scream, Zoey grabbed the bag on the table and swung it straight at Nella’s face.
Nella didn’t expect her to go that far. She lifted her arm to block it. Some of the force was stopped, but the metal buckle on the bag slammed into her pinky finger.
Metal hit bone. The pain was instant and sharp. Nella’s face went pale.
Before she could recover, Zoey raised the bag again. That was the last straw.
Nella’s expression turned cold. Enough was enough.
This time, Nella was ready. The moment the purse came down, she grabbed Zoey’s wrist and twisted it hard to the side.
Zoey screamed in pain. Her grip loosened, and the purse fell to the floor.
Bang!
At the same time the bag hit the ground, a clear slap rang out.
Zoey’s head snapped to the side.
She covered her face, staring at Nella in shock. She never imagined Nella would actually hit her.
“You …
you
dared to hit me?” Zoey shouted.
