Chapter 272 Love Can’t Pay the Bills
As she said this, Nella looked at Zoey and gave her a slow, meaningful smile.
“You may be loved,” she said calmly, “but the law doesn’t recognize you. To everyone else, you’re just the other woman people love to hate. Every dollar he spent on you while he was married- if I don’t agree-I can take it all back.”
She watched Zoey’s face turn darker and darker, her expression twisting with anger. Nella shrugged lightly and continued.
“See? That marriage certificate you look down on is exactly what gives me the right to shut down a side chick. You might have Alfred’s ‘love,’ but tell me, can love put food on the table or pay the bills?”
For a long time, Nella felt that arguing about status or titles with Zoey was beneath her and looked bad.
But now she realized something. When you’re dealing with someone who refuses to listen to reason, dignity doesn’t matter.
What matters is what works.
As expected, Zoey’s face twisted the moment Nella finished speaking.
The look of total collapse was almost satisfying. And honestly? Nella enjoyed it.
“Why bother?” Nella added calmly. “I’m not your enemy. If you want Alfred to marry you, convince him to divorce me faster. I just didn’t know his way of loving you was so special- loving you so much, yet never giving you a real position.”
That did it. Zoey completely lost it.
Nella reached out, grabbed the furious Zoey, who was blocking her way, and pulled her aside to clear a path.
She opened the exam room door, then looked back at Zoey, who was still shaking with rage.
“Go complain to him already,” Nella said with a smile. “If you wait any longer, the handprint on your face will fade.”
That knowing smile pushed Zoey over the edge. Her face twisted even more.
Clenching her teeth, Zoey grabbed her bag and stormed out. After a few steps, she turned back and glared at Nella.
