When Alfred reached the exam room and saw a stranger sitting in Nella’s chair, he froze.
“Isn’t Dr. Milo on duty today?” he asked.
The doctor on duty recognized Alfred. Seeing him still in a hospital gown, the doctor looked both surprised and confused.
“You didn’t know? Dr. Milo doesn’t work at this hospital anymore.”
Alfred’s face, already pale, lost what little color it had left.
“What do you mean she doesn’t work here? Where did she go?”
Why would she quit for no reason?
Why leave without a word? Not even a short explanation?
The doctor was startled by Alfred’s reaction and quickly tried to calm him.
“Mr. Keywood, calm down. Dr. Milo is teaching at Apex Medical School for a while. She’ll be back.”
“Apex Medical School?”
Alfred murmured under his breath.
“Yes. It was arranged by the hospital. Didn’t Dr. Milo tell you?”
Didn’t she tell you?
Those words circulated in his mind repeatedly.
The doctor looked completely sincere.
But to Alfred, those words echoed again and again, sounding almost like mockery.
Right. When he was hospitalized with stomach bleeding, she didn’t even come to see him. Why would she bother telling him about a job change?
Sergio stood quietly beside his boss.
This is bad. Boss looks like he’s about to fall apart.
No, no, no-this won’t do.

If something happens to him, who’s going to pay my seven-figure salary?
Thinking that, Sergio shivered hard and stepped forward.
“Mr. Keywood, you should go back to your room and rest. I’ll call Mrs. Keywood and ask about Marshal.”
This time, Alfred didn’t argue. He went back to the hospital room in silence.
The moment he sat down, his eyes locked onto Sergio, burning with anxious expectation.
Sergio was stunned.
Seriously. If I didn’t know Mr. Keywood was straight, that look would be very misleading.
Grumbling silently to himself, Sergio dialed Nella’s number.
Sergio had always treated Nella politely. Compared to Archie and the others, she was more willing to talk to him.
The phone rang twice before she answered.
“Sergio? You are looking for me?”
“Good morning, Mrs. Keywood,” Sergio flattered her warmly, then got to the point.
“Mr. Keywood was hospitalized last night with stomach bleeding and was just discharged. He didn’t pick up Marshal today, so I wanted to ask, should I come get Marshal now?”
He emphasized the part about his boss being hospitalized, but the person on the other end sounded as if she hadn’t heard it at all.
“There’s no need, Sergio. I’ve been pretty free lately. I’ll take care of Marshal myself. Please go ahead with your work.”
“Oh, I see. All right then. Sorry to bother you, Mrs. Keywood.”
“Okay. Bye, Sergio.”
The call ended. Sergio looked up at Alfred and immediately felt chills run down his spine. Alfred was staring at him with a dark, intense gaze.
“Mr. Keywood, why are you looking at me like that?
“Why does she speak so politely to you?”
