Chapter 291 The Call He Shouldn’t Have Made
What Nella didn’t expect was that near evening, her phone rang again. This time, it was a number she didn’t recognize.
“Nella, it’s me. Patrick.”
Patrick?
Why is he calling?

Nella didn’t dislike Patrick. Even though he was Zoey’s brother, the few times they had met before, he had always treated her far better than Archie ever did.
For that reason, she stayed polite.
“Mr. Mack, how are you feeling now?” she asked.
“I’m much better these past two days. I still need to thank you for saving my life.”
Nella did the math in her head. Patrick must have fully woken up just yesterday or the day
before.
Most likely, he still didn’t know how his sister had nearly gotten him killed.
She didn’t waste time on small talk.
“Did you call because you need something?” she asked directly.
There was sudden silence on the other end.
“Nella…”
Patrick hesitated, clearly struggling to speak.
“I know what my mother did to your dog,” he finally said. “I’m really sorry.”
Nella already knew what was coming. She stayed quiet and let him continue.
“I was wondering if there’s anything we can do. If you’re willing to settle this privately, we’ll cooperate fully.”
He finished carefully, his voice tense, waiting for her answer.
Instead of anger, Nella felt more sympathy for him.

She dabit answer his question right away
Avila sand cahub “My Mack, your sister almost killed you just to frame me. You just harchy woke up, and instead of your healthy family members coming to talk to me, they sem you- someone who just walked back from the edge of death-to make this call Aren’t they afraid wolt you and shock you right back into the hospital?”
Panick fell silent. He doesn’t know how to answer that casual question.
“Mr. Mack,” Nella added flatly, “I honestly think you were picked up from the street and raiseċ by the wrong famil
Patrick had no way to rebuke that.
“Nella-
He tied to speak again, but she cut him off.
“Mr. Mack, I can’t agree to your request. Since you’re worried about your mother, you should understand how I feel too. My dog is my family. I watched him nearly die from what your mother did. I can’t just let that go.”
Patrick didn’t respond. He seemed to realize how shameful this request was.
“Take care of yourself,” Nella said, speaking from a doctor’s instinct. “Don’t push your body.”
With that, she hung up.
Afterward, whether Patrick couldn’t handle it physically or simply didn’t have the nerve to call again. Nella never received another call from hìm.
At Everwell Medical Center.
“Well?” Zoey demanded to know what happened the moment Patrick ended the call. Did that bitch agree to mediate?”
Patrick frowned at her. “Can you show some respect when you talk about her?”
He had only woken up the night before. Patrick was still weak, drifting in and out of sleep.
The moment he opened his eyes, his father and sister had pushed him to make that call.
He hadn’t even known what his mother had done.
But after hearing how firm Nella was and that his mother had been taken away by the police with no chance for bail, he knew one thing for sure.
