“Her name is Sunny?”

Nella held the kitten’s soft paw and squeezed it again and again, like she couldn’t stop herself. Her voice carried clear surprise.

“Yes,” Wesley said. “This is my treasure.”

While scratching the kitten’s chin, Nella smiled at Wesley.

“What a coincidence. When I was little, my dad used to call me Sunny too.”

All her attention was on the kitten. She didn’t notice the brief, awkward look that crossed Wesley’s face after she said that.

“Oh? Really?” Wesley said with a light laugh. “That really is a coincidence.”

He kissed the kitten on the head. His eyes quietly rested on Nella’s smiling face, and the corner of his mouth lifted just a little.

“Sunny, Sunny,” Nella said happily. “We’re fated. We even share the same nickname.”

“Meow… meow…”

The kitten’s soft cries melted her heart. Her smile grew even brighter.

“Alright, sweetie. I won’t play with you anymore,” she said gently. “I need to take your big brother to the hotel first.”

She started the car and drove toward downtown.

The hotel Wesley booked was right next to Apex Medical University.

It was also close to Nella’s place.

“The restaurant I booked is nearby,” Nella said to Wesley. “You go rest for a bit. I’ll wait for you in the lobby.”

As she spoke, she took his cat carrier and lovingly petted Sunny, who was curled up inside.

“I’ll keep Sunny with me for now. You get some rest.”

Wesley watched her eyes stay glued to the kitten. He smiled and nodded.

“Alright. I’ll go change and come right back down.”

Nella sat in the hotel lobby with a cat on her lap and a big yellow dog sitting calmly in the pet stroller. Marshal rested quietly, watching her. She looked completely content.

Meanwhile, at Emerald Vista Bay, the mood inside the luxury penthouse slowly sank into heavy

silence.

The hotel’s catered feast had stayed warm in the heated boxes, but the food had long lost its color and appeal.

“Um, Alfred,” Archie said carefully, breaking the silence. “Maybe you should call Nella again. She might’ve gotten held up by something.”

The cheerful mood from earlier was gone.

Even Ryan, who had sounded so confident before, now felt unsure.

That custom fountain pen Nella ordered…

Was it really for Alfred?

It had to be, right?

Did she know anyone else with the same last name?

And why did it have to be given today, of all days?

Alfred’s jaw tightened. His face darkened by the second.

Nella’s WhatsApp profile showed no activity at all.

He picked up his phone. After hesitating for a long moment, he finally called her.

The call went through, but it rang for a long time with no answer.

A tight, restless feeling pressed against his temples, making his head throb.

He called again. And again. Still no answer.

“Still can’t reach her?” Archie asked softly when Alfred walked back into the living room, his face grim.

Alfred said nothing.

“Maybe I’ll ask my wife,” Mason said, pulling out his phone to message Jasmine.

“But honestly, she’s found me annoying lately. She might not tell me anything.”

Just then, Alfred spoke, his voice flat and cold.

“The food’s cold. Let’s eat out.”

“We’re not waiting for Nella?” Ryan asked.

Alfred’s expression was terrifyingly calm.

“No,” he said. “She’s not coming.”
