Chapter 308 Forgotten Birthday
“Go home,” Nella said coldly. “Don’t stand in the way.”
She stepped forward and moved around Alfred to open the door.
Behind her, Alfred’s low, hoarse voice followed.
“Where did you go tonight? Why are you only coming back now?”
Nella paused with her hand on the door. She turned to look at him.

His eyes held a strange mix of hope and avoidance, like he wanted an answer but was afraid of hearing it.
“This is my business,” she said calmly. “I don’t need to report everything to you, do I?”
That one sentence left Alfred speechless for a long moment.
“Your business?” he repeated.
“Yes. Private business.”
Her face stayed blank, her tone even colder than before.
“Mr. Keywood, wasn’t it written obviously in the contract you gave me? Neither party is allowed to interfere in the other’s personal life. So my private matters are not something you should ask about.”
Alfred opened his mouth, but his throat felt dry. No sound came out.
At that moment, he had only one thought. If he could go back three years, he would slap himself hard-again and again-for coming up with that contract.
As Nella pushed the door open and stepped inside, Alfred suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist.
Nella frowned at once. She lowered her eyes and glanced at the hand gripping her wrist, her expression full of rejection.
“Mr. Keywood,” she said flatly, “let go.”
Alfred acted as if he hadn’t heard her at all. His eyes were red as he stared at her, his voice shaking.
“I messaged you on WhatsApp. I called you. Even if you had something private to do, couldn’t

you at least tell me? Do you know I waited for you all night?”
A a 66.
Finished
By the time he reached the last sentence, there was a trace of grievance in his voice-one that felt strangely familiar to Nella.
But her expression did not soften at all.
Instead, she looked at him with clear confusion and asked, “Why were you waiting for me?”
The confusion in her eyes didn’t seem fake.
That made it even harder for Alfred to accept.
“So, you forgot?” he asked quietly.
Nella became even more confused. “Forgot what?”
It felt as if another knife had been driven straight into Alfred’s chest.
He understood now. Nella hadn’t skipped his birthday out of anger or spite.
She simply forgot.
She really forgot.
His lips trembled harder. He stared at her face, his voice shaking as he spoke.
“Today is my birthday. You promised that day you would come.”
Birthday?
Only then did a flicker of realization appear in Nella’s
eyes.
“Oh,” she said after a short pause. “Sorry. I forgot.”
She said the word “sorry,” but there was no apology in her expression or her gaze.
It looked more like she was saying, I forgot. So what?
Alfred lowered his eyes slightly. He remembered that he had even sent her a WhatsApp message earlier that day to remind her.
She didn’t answer my calls. Did she miss my messages too?
Almost like he was hurting himself on purpose, he looked at her and said stubbornly, “I sent you a WhatsApp message.”

“Huh?” Nella replied.
Very casually, she took out her phone and tapped on Alfred’s profile picture.
Finished
Sure enough, before the series of nonstop calls that afternoon, Alfred had sent her a message asking when she would go to Emerald Vista Bay.
But she had muted his message and missed all of his messages, including the voice messages he sent afterward.
She didn’t know what he said in those voice messages. And she didn’t care to listen.
