“Nella, what happened back in Glacieroth was my fault. Alfred leaving you there was because of me. I’ve felt guilty ever since. I even planned to visit you properly to apologize. Please don’t blame Alfred.”
Nella frowned slightly.
She knew Zoey kept bringing this up on purpose. It was a way to show how important she was to Alfred.
There was no need to keep showing it off. Nella already understood that well.

Seeing that Nella stayed calm and showed no anger or sadness, Zoey’s eyes darkened. She glanced at Alfred again and said,
“I came to the hospital today for a follow up. My parents are abroad on business, so I asked
follow him secretly.” Alfred to come with me. It’s really not what you think. You don’t have to…
So that was it.
After all that talk, she was accusing Nella of tracking Alfred.
No wonder Alfred had looked at her so strangely earlier.
“Ms. Mack, do you have any friends who are doctors?” Nella asked.
“Huh?”
Zoey froze, clearly not expecting that question.
Still, she answered in a soft, pitiful tone. “I wish I did. But I’m not as capable as you, Nella. I can’t be a doctor. My body is so weak, I…”
Her eyes
started turning red again.
Nella had no interest in watching her performance, She cut her off.
“If you have doctor friends, you should ask them. Surgeons are very busy. We don’t have time for that kind of pointless behavior.”
Zoey froze, then finally understood what Nella meant.
She was responding to the accusation of secretly following Alfred.
Her expression faltered. Panicked, she turned for help toward the man who had been standing

Seeing her cornered, Alfred finally stepped in. He moved forward to stand in front of Nella and spoke in an even, calm voice.
“Nella, Zoey didn’t mean it that way. She was just anxious to explain and misspoke.”
Nella looked up at him. Her expression was flat. She tugged at the corner of her lips and nodded.
“Okay, I understand.”
She said nothing more. Carrying her medicine, she turned to leave.
She had no interest in being part of whatever game they were playing. Unfortunately, someone was not willing to let her go.
Zoey hurried in front of her again and blocked her path. Biting her lip, she asked,
“Nella, if you weren’t following Alfred, then why are you here?”
A worried look appeared on Zoey’s face as she lowered her voice.
“This is a mental health clinic. People who come here usually have psychological issues. Could it be that you have depression too?”
She deliberately stressed the word “depression,” her lips curling into a faint, mocking smile.
Nella understood the meaning behind it.
She glanced briefly at Alfred, then quickly looked away and replied casually,
“It’s nothing. I’ve been having trouble sleeping because of jet lag, so I came to get some medication.”
She lifted the bag of medicine in her hand, then checked the time on her watch.
“You two go ahead. I’m heading back.”
She turned again to leave.
“Nella!”
