Chapter 339 No Past Talk

“Can we drop the past already?”

Alfred stayed silent. The rims of his eyes were bloodshot. His whole face looked exhausted and

empty.

“If you’ve got anything else to say, then say it now. If not, I’m going back to work.”

Nella’s voice was clipped and firm.

Alfred slowly raised his head. He looked like a wreck.

But his eyes still clung to something. Like there was one last thing keeping him from falling

apart.

“I’ve already handled the Macks. Their company’s finished. Zoey won’t be bothering you again.”

He reached out and grabbed Nella’s sleeve. His fingers tightened like he was holding on for dear life.

Nella was caught off guard.

Just this morning, Zoey had called Alfred talking about some life debt. He told her to meet him at Keywood Group.

So what now? He’d called her over just to break the news her family was going bankrupt?

If that wasn’t love, Nella didn’t know what was.

The thought slipped through her mind before she could stop it.

Still, if Alfred was telling the truth and he really crushed the Macks just to keep Zoey from coming near her again, then … fine. That was something.

For a spoiled little princess like Zoey, who was used to five-figure handbags and being treated like royalty, losing everything would be torture. She couldn’t buy her lifestyle back. She couldn’t charm it back. Watching her family fall apart, and not being able to stop it, would probably hurt more than death.

And the worst part? The man she loved was the one who pulled the plug.

Alfred made her. And now he was the one tearing it all down.

Nella found herself actually feeling bad for Zoey for half a second.

But then Alfred noticed her silence and panicked.

“I’m cutting ties with the Macks. With Zoey. I’ve paid her back for everything I owed. Nella, just give me a real chance. I swear I won’t get near her again.

“And Eileen? After what she did to Marshal-whatever you want to do with her, I won’t step in.”

The second he said Eileen’s name, Nella’s expression dropped. Her eyes turned cold again.

What Eileen did to Marshal didn’t deserve forgiveness. Honestly, sending her to prison was the merciful option. If this wasn’t a civilized country, she wouldn’t have walked away alive.

When Nella found out that it was Eileen who abused Marshal, every part of her wanted to rip her apart.

She wanted her to go through every single thing she put Marshal through. She wanted her to suffer for it.

And this morning, when she heard Alfred still trying to defend Zoey, she seriously believed he might try to get Eileen out. That was the moment her hatred for Alfred hit its peak.

She kept her face calm. But inside, she’d made up her mind.

If Alfred really pulled Eileen out of jail, she was going to destroy her. Even if it meant burning with her.

So hearing him say this now did calm her a little.

But all she said was, “Then I hope you keep your word, Mr. Keywood.”

She looked at her watch.

“We’ve said enough, right? You don’t have anything else, do you?”

Her voice was steady. Barely polite.

Alfred parted his lips. No sound came out.

After a beat, he just shook his head.

“Then I’ll get back to the office.”

She stood and walked away.

Two steps in, she suddenly turned around and glanced back at him.
