Chapter 340 No Turning Back
:
“Let’s meet up in three days and sign the divorce papers.”
Alfred went sheet white.
“Okay.”
His voice came out hoarse, and he nodded stiffly.
Nella felt a wave of relief crash through her chest.

She’d been bracing for him to push back or stall. The last thing she needed was more drama.
After she walked out, Alfred didn’t move. He just sat there, blankly staring at the cup of hot coffee she hadn’t even touched. His lips twitched as if he meant to smile.
But it didn’t land. The corners of his mouth barely moved. His whole body looked drained, like someone had pulled the plug and emptied him out.
Back at the office, Nella walked in to see Wesley sitting at her desk.
There was a box in front of him-the same custom fountain pen she’d given him the day
before.
When he saw her walk in, he waved her over casually.
She headed over. “What’s up? Did the pen give you trouble?”
“You kidding? It’s perfect. Anything you pick has gotta be top-tier.”
Wesley grinned.
Then he pulled out another pen from the box. Same model, different color.
“It’s a matching set. Seriously? I don’t even have a girlfriend yet, and you’re already dropping couple pens on me?”
He chuckled, teasing her, eyes lit up with amusement when he caught the surprise on her face.
“I only ordered one.”
That’s when it hit her.
She remembered running into Ryan at the shop that day. He’d said he wanted to gift her a pen.

She hadn’t expected him to actually follow through. Let alone make it a couple’s set.

Great. Now it was weird. Looking a little awkward, she explained the whole thing to Wesley.
“Just hold onto it, okay? When you meet your future girlfriend, you can give her the second one.”
Wesley’s brow arched slightly.
“Yeah, that’ll probably be in, what, 20 years?”
Then he held the pen out to her.
“Take it. Fountain pens don’t hold up well if you leave them sitting around. You’d just be wasting a good one. Might as well use it for your lesson plans or those case files you’ve been buried in.”
He noticed the hesitation in her eyes and added quickly, “Come on. Who says couple pens are only for couples? Friends can use ’em too.”
He’d already said all that. If she kept harping on the whole “matching” thing, it’d just look dramatic.
So she reached out and took it.
“Alright. I’ll use it.”
Wesley’s smile deepened, warm and relaxed.

eyes,
Later that day, Nella opened her texts and pulled up Claire’s contact. She sent over a transfer for the pen’s price.
“Hey Claire, can you pass this along to Ryan? Tell him thanks for the pen, but I can’t accept a gift like that for no reason. Please make sure he takes the money.”
Claire responded almost instantly. She said to keep it. Said it wasn’t a big deal.
But Nella sent the payment back anyway.
They went back and forth a few times. Then something clicked in Claire’s head. She remembered the photo Zoey had posted the other day. The one where the pen’s box was just barely visible in the background.
So that was the real story. The pen that was supposed to be for someone special? It wasn’t for

Alfred. It was for the guy who had lunch with her.
If he’d meant it for Alfred, whatever. She wouldn’t have cared about the money.
But giving it to another guy? Yeah. That changed things.
