“Don’t be scared. Do you know which hospital Patrick was sent to? I’ll head over right now.”
“I think it’s … Apex Medical University Hospital. Alfred, what should I do? Will my brother die?”

That was Nella’s hospital.
Alfred stopped walking and spoke gently to calm Zoey.
“Don’t panic. I’m already at Apex Medical University Hospital. Take your time and come over. I’ll handle things here.”
The crying on the other end suddenly stopped. “Alfred, why are you there? Did you … did you go to see Nella?”
Alfred could not understand why Zoey was focusing on something so unimportant at a time like this. He had no patience to explain.
“Don’t worry about that. I’ll check on Patrick first.”
He hung up before Zoey could say anything else.
Just then, an ambulance with flashing lights rushed into the hospital entrance.
Right after that, a blood-covered patient was lifted down by the medical staff.
The lead emergency doctor shouted, “The patient was in a car accident 20 minutes ago. Severe chest impact. Blood pressure difference between both arms. Send him for a CT scan first. Suspected aortic dissection. Call the on-duty cardiac surgeon.”
The emergency team pushed the stretcher toward the ER. Alfred followed closely.
The man on the stretcher was Zoey’s brother, Patrick.
“Have we contacted the patient’s family?”
“I’m here,” Alfred said, stepping forward.
“Please come with me.”
Meanwhile, Nella had just taken the medication Lyra prescribed when the phone in the duty
room rang.

“Dr. Milo, the ER has received a car accident patient. Suspected aortic dissection. Please come over immediately.”
“Okay, I’m on my way.”
She did not have time to put away the pills on her desk. She rushed out of the duty room and jogged toward the emergency building.
When Nella arrived at the ER, the first person she saw was Alfred, standing outside the surgical area in a sharp suit, his brows tightly knit and his expression grave.
“Dr. Milo is here.”
Someone called out. Alfred looked up at once and saw Nella.
His eyes lit up slightly as he walked toward her.
“You know the patient?” Nella asked before Alfred could speak.
If that were not the case, Alfred would not still be here.
Alfred paused, then nodded.
“He’s Zoey’s brother.”
Nella nodded in understanding.
No wonder.
She did not ask anything more. She stepped forward to examine the unconscious man and asked the doctor beside her, “Are the CT results back?”
“Yes.”
Another doctor handed the CT scans to Nella.
She glanced at them, her brows tightening.
“Type A aortic dissection. We need surgery immediately. Have the OR get ready.”
With that, Nella headed toward the operating room.
After just a few steps, Alfred caught up and grabbed her arm.
“Is his condition serious?”
Nella nodded. “Very serious. The aorta has ruptured. Surgery must be done as soon as possible.
