No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 381

Chapter 381 Drowning in Guilt

“That said, if Aunt Tolina ever wants to come back and see Grandpa, our family will welcome her with open arms. But if she refuses and keeps holding onto that hatred, that’s fine too. Grandpa has made it this far without her all these years. With or without you, nothing changes.

“But…”

Alfred paused, his eyes turning cold as ice as they landed on Wesley.

“If you think about laying a finger on Nella, don’t expect me to hold back out of respect for your mother.”

At those words, Wesley suddenly laughed.

He lifted his gaze to meet Alfred’s head-on and smirked

“What do you mean, laying a finger on Nella? Once you wo are divorced, she’s single. Even if I wanted to pursue her, that’s between me and her. I don’t think her ex-husband has any right to interfere, do you?”

Alfred didn’t take the bait.

His voice remained ice-cold. “Tell me Nella’s car accident had nothing to do with you.”

With that, Alfred turned and pushed open the door to Nella’s room, stepping inside.

Wesley stayed outside. He didn’t follow.

He simply stood there, staring through the privacy curtain covering the glass, watching the faint silhouette moving inside.

Even though he refused to admit it in front of Alfred, he still didn’t have the courage to face Nella directly.

It wasn’t until a few days later, when the cervical collar was finally removed and Nella could move again, that Wesley showed up at her room for the first time.

“Wesley, you’re here.”

The moment she saw him, a smile broke across Nella’s face, and her expression flooded with relief.

“I haven’t seen you this whole time. I thought you were upset with me for dragging you into this mess.”

Wesley forced the corners of his mouth into something resembling a smile, pushing down the guilt swirling in his eyes as he stepped closer.

“Alfred’s been taking care of you these past few days. I didn’t want to see him, so I stayed away. Don’t be mad

at me.”

Nella didn’t doubt him for a second. She waved her han with a smile. “How could I be mad at you? If I hadn’t invited you on that trip, you never would’ve been caught up in this disaster.”

Alfred had told her that Norris was the one behind the ash. It was an act of revenge.

Wesley was just an innocent bystander who got dragged into it. Knowing he was okay was the only thing keeping her from drowning in guilt.

What she didn’t realize was that her words sent Wesley’s guilt crashing through the roof.

An innocent bystander caught in the crossfire…

She was the real innocent victim here.

If it weren’t for him, his stepfather never would have set his sights on her. She never would have suffered like this.

He tried to force a smile, to make himself look more relaxed.

But no matter how hard he tried, the moment he met Nella’s clear, trusting eyes, he couldn’t even manage that.

The guilt inside him surged like floodwaters, threatening to swallow him whole.

“Sunny, don’t say that.”

His voice trembled.

Nella noticed something was off with him. Even though the nickname made her uncomfortable, she didn’t correct him.

“Wesley, what’s wrong? You seem really out of it.”

She frowned, concern filling her voice.

Wesley clenched his jaw and looked away. “I’m sorry, Sunny.”

Nella assumed he was apologizing for not visiting her sooner and quickly reassured him.

“It’s really fine. I’m not that petty. I’m not going to be upset just because you didn’t come see me. Honestly, I’m just relieved that you weren’t hurt in the accident.”
