Chapter 383 Relief and Loss
Nella didn’t make a fuss. She just nodded. “Thanks for the ride.”
“No trouble.”
Alfred shook his head, his voice low and rough.
Finished
On the way back to the hospital, Nella propped her elbow against the window ledge and rested her head on her hand, saying nothing.
Alfred, on the other hand, kept glancing over at her, opening his mouth to speak several times but stopping himself each time.
By the time the car pulled through the hospital gates, he still hadn’t said a word.
Nella unbuckled her seatbelt and got out first. As Alfred reached to undo his own, she said, “I’ve taken up a lot of your time lately. I can take care of myself now, so you don’t need to worry about me anymore.”
Alfred’s expression shifted.
Now that the divorce was finalized, he didn’t even have an excuse to stay by her side anymore.
In the end, he just nodded. “Okay.”
“I’ll head back then.”
He didn’t make things difficult for Nella. He refastened is seatbelt.
“Go on inside. Don’t catch a cold out here.”
“Alright. Goodbye.”
Nella waved at him and turned to walk toward the hospital building.
The divorce certificate in her hand still felt warm from Being gripped so tightly that her palm had turned pink.
By the time she got back to her room, she found herself staring at the silver-embossed words “Certificate of Divorce” in a daze.
She couldn’t quite name what she was feeling-relief, fredom, perhaps. And yet, there was also an empty, hollow sense of loss.
“Nella.”
The door to her room swung open.
Her mother, Felicia, walked in.
“Mom.”
Felicia’s eyes immediately landed on the divorce certificate in Nella’s hand. She didn’t ask any questions. She simply stepped forward and pulled her daughter into a gentle embrace.
“Don’t be sad.”

Chapter 383 Relief and Loss
Nella leaned into her mother’s arms and let out a helpless laugh at her words.
Finished
“Mom, I’m not sad. It’s just that suddenly letting go of something like this leaves me feeling a little empty inside.”
She answered honestly.
But Felicia didn’t see it that way.
Her daughter had loved Alfred for over ten years. Even she really wanted to move on, it couldn’t happen this quickly.
People have feelings. Forcibly letting go of someone you’ve loved for over a decade was no different than ripping a rib straight out of your own body.
How could it not hurt? How could she possibly be fine?
Sensing her mother’s somber mood, Nella felt a bit helpless.
“Mom, I’m really okay.”
“Alright. As long as you’re okay.”
Felicia gently rubbed Nella’s back. “No matter what, you dad and I are always here for you.”
“I know.”
Nella nodded, but her eyes couldn’t help but well up with tears.
“So, what are you planning to do now?”
Felicia asked after a moment.
“What do you mean, planning?”
Nella lifted her head from her mother’s embrace, confusion in her eyes.
It was just a divorce. Life goes on as usual, doesn’t it?
Seeing the blank look on her face, Felicia sighed and lightly poked her forehead.
“You really haven’t noticed that Wesley has feelings for you?”
“What?”
Nella blinked, her eyes widening in shock. “Wesley likes me?”
The moment the words left her mouth, she couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
“Mom, you’ve got some serious mom goggles going on. You think every guy who shows up around me must be into your daughter?”
