No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 384

Chapter 384 Would That Make You Happy?

* Finished

Felicia shot her a look and said exasperatedly, “He’s always so good to you. You really can’t tell?”

Nella didn’t take her mother’s words seriously at all. She just shrugged.

“Wesley is nice to me because he’s a nice person. Besides, we studied under the same mentor. Isn’t it normal for him to look out for me?”

Seeing that Felicia was about to say more, Nella quickly cut her off.

“Mom, please don’t say stuff like this in front of him. It would be so awkward for him.”

Felicia didn’t push it any further. She simply said, “Fine, I won’t say anything else. Just keep it in the back of your mind.”

With that, Felicia stood up.

“Your dad should be awake by now. I’m going to check on him.”

“I’ll come with you.”

The two of them walked to the door together. The moment they opened it, they found Wesley standing outside, his expression a mix of awkwardness and something hard to read.

Nella and Felicia both froze, their faces equally flustered

“Wesley, how long have you been standing there?”

Felicia asked, her voice stiff.

Wesley smiled faintly.

“I heard you two chatting and didn’t want to interrupt, so I just waited out here.”

So he heard everything?

The looks on Felicia’s and Nella’s faces grew even more awkward.

Felicia let out an uncomfortable laugh and turned to Nella.

“I’ll go check on your dad first. You stay and keep Wesley company.”

“Mom…”

Before Nella could finish, Wesley spoke up first, “I’ll come along too. I’d like to see how he’s doing.”

“Sure.”

Felicia nodded, and the three of them silently agreed not to bring up what had been said in the room.

Clifford was recovering well. After Nella and Wesley spent some time with him, Felicia shooed them out.

“It’s sunny outside. Want to go for a walk downstairs?”

Wesley suggested.

Nella thought about what her mother had said earlier. Since Wesley had heard it all, she figured she should clear the air.

So she nodded. “Sure.”

Behind the hospital building was a large open lawn.

The warm winter sun spilled across the grass, carrying a gentle touch of warmth.

“Wesley.”

Nella stopped walking and looked up at him.

“About what my mom said back there. Don’t take it to heart. She’s just worried I’m upset about the divorce and was trying to cheer me up.”

Wesley didn’t say anything. He just looked down at her with a soft smile playing at the corners of his eyes.

His expression made Nella feel a little uneasy, but she pushed through.

“I’m sure my mom just thought that having someone as great as you interested in me after my divorce would make me happy. That’s the only reason she said i. I hope you’re not weirded out.”

She saw Wesley as her savior, her mentor’s fellow student, a good friend.

The last thing she wanted was for her mother’s wishful thinking to scare him off.

She kept her eyes down, rambling through her explanation, when Wesley suddenly cut her off.

“So, does it make you happy?”

Nella’s words caught in her throat. When she looked up at Wesley, her eyes were full of confusion.

“What?”

“Now that you’re divorced from Alfred, if I told you I liked you, would that make you happy?”

Wesley’s expression was serious as he fixed his gaze on Nella. The sudden question left her completely stunned.

It took her a long moment to find her voice again.

“Are you just saying that to make me feel better too?”
