Chapter 47 Trouble in Paradise

Alfred seemed lost in thought, merely offering Zocy a low, muted response.

“There’s nothing more for me here. I’m heading back to the office. The driver will take you home. The hospital will contact us with any updates.”

He spoke while striding toward the elevator.

Inside, Alfred tugged irritably at his tie, a strange heaviness clogging his chest.

His finger hovered over the button for the second floor for several long seconds before he finally pressed the one for the lobby.

Zoey sensed the hesitation immediately.

The second floor. That was where Nella’s consultation office was.

So, Alfred’s first instinct was still to look for her.

Why?

He had never paid Nella this much mind before.

What was going on with him?

Zoey studied Alfred’s profile in silence, her unease growing by the second.

At the hospital parking lot, Alfred instructed the driver to take Zoey home.

“What about you, Alfred?”

“I’ve got work to deal with.”

With that, Alfred turned and walked straight out of the hospital.

“Alfred! Wait, Alfred!”

Zoey called after his retreating back, unwilling to let go.

“Ms. Mack, please get in the car,” the driver, Richie, urged impatiently. “Mr. Keywood is giving

the car and taking a cab back to the office himself.”

He had little patience for Zoey.

She knew Alfred was married, yet she clung to him like ivy.

Her family had drivers of their own, but she’d had him go out of his way to pick her their place just to visit a patient. Shameless.

He wasn’t blind. He could see she was trying to break up Alfred’s marriage.

Richie’s eyes were like lie detectors. One look and he could tell Zoey was a homewrecking, two- faced bitch.

He sneered inwardly.

Zoey caught the disdain in his tone and shot him a venomous glare.

The sweet, gentle facade she wore for Alfred was gone in his absence.

“Who do you think are?” she snapped. “Just what the hell do you

think you are? A glorified errand boy in a cheap suit, and you have the nerve to look down on me? Do you think I couldn’t have Alfred fire you?”

Richie bristled but felt a chill of fear at her words.

Being the personal driver for the CEO of the Keywood Group came with a salary several times the market rate.

He couldn’t afford to lose this job.

Man…

Is Mr. Keywood blind? How can he not see she’s a two-faced bitch?

Richie swallowed his bitterness. Some complaints were better left unsaid.

At the Keywood Group, Sergio walked into Alfred’s office with some documents in his hands.

“Mr. Keywood, this is the new proposal from the project team for your review.”

Alfred took the file but set it aside without glancing at it.

His usually cool gaze was now fixed intently on his assistant with an unnerving scrutiny.

Sergio shifted nervously under that look.

He quickly checked his attire-nothing amiss.

Why is Mr. Keywood looking at me like that?

“Mr. Keywood…?”

Sergio managed, swallowing hard.

Alfred finally looked away, his tone deceptively casual.

“When

you and your wife argue, how do you

make it up to her?”

Huh? That’s it?

He knew it. The way his boss had been distracted with his phone yesterday, it had to be a fight with Nella.

Bingo!

Sergio tilted his head, thought for half a second, and shook it. “Well, I never argue with my wife.”
