Chapter 49 Agreeing for Different Reasons
Was he still not sincere enough?
Thinking about it, Alfred felt a faint sense of grievance in his chest.
“Enough. You can go,” Alfred said, waving Sergio off impatiently.
Great. Just one look at the boss and it’s obvious he hasn’t listened to a single word.
Good advice never saved a man determined to die.
When his wife is gone, he’d have plenty of time to cry about it. Heh.

Humming to himself, Sergio kept a respectful expression on his face as he exited the CEO’s office.
By the time Nella got home, it was already afternoon.
She took a shower, changed into loungewear, and took the medication Lyra had prescribed before going to lie down for a nap..
Perhaps because the medicine took effect, she slept soundly.
When she woke up, the sun outside the window had already set.
In winter, night fell early.
Nella glanced at the wall clock. It was almost five in the afternoon.
After washing up in the bathroom, she came out and heard her phone on the nightstand chime with a few message notifications.
She walked over and picked it up, only to see that they were from Alfred.
“Where are you? Are you free tonight?”
Nella looked puzzled. She was just about to tell him she was at home when another message from Alfred came in.
“There are some things about Patrick I still want to ask you.”
Her hand paused.
So that was it. Alfred only took the initiative to message her when it involved Zoey.

Out of professional responsibility as a doctor, she still replied, “I’m at home. If you need updates on Patrick’s condition, I can help check with the ICU. There shouldn’t be any major
issues.”
The moment she sent the message, Alfred replied almost immediately, “I’ve booked a restaurant. I’ll come pick you up. We can talk while we eat.”
This was the first time Alfred had ever replied to her so quickly.
Nella let out a self-mocking smile. For Alfred to respond this fast, she really had Zoey to thank.
She replied with a simple “Okay” and set her phone aside.
Remembering that she still needed to look for a place to rent, she opened her laptop browser and went onto a housing listing site.
On the other side, when Alfred saw the single word “Okay” from Nella, his expression grew complicated.
On one hand, she had agreed to meet him, and he instinctively let out a breath of relief.
But seeing that she had replied with just that one word, without anything else, left him feeling oddly uncomfortable.
Scrolling up, Nella’s earlier messages were far more detailed, as if she had been making an effort to keep the conversation going.
As for him, he either didn’t reply at all or answered with things like “Okay,” “Got it,” or “I’m busy.”
Now, everything seemed reversed.
He even mocked himself inwardly, thinking that if he hadn’t used Patrick as an excuse, Nella might not have agreed to have dinner with him at all.
He didn’t know how he had ended up being this cautious and tentative.
He let out a bitter laugh.
Fine. Leaving her alone in Glacieroth for half a month, even if there had been reasons, really
had been too much.
If he needed to comfort her, then so be it.
Nella had a good temper. She should be easy to comfort.
Meanwhile, after searching online for a long time without finding a suitable place to rent, Nella
