Chapter 65 It’s All My Fault

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line. A few seconds later, soft, whimpering sobs came through the phone.
“Alfred, you used to come pick me up yourself every time. This time… Is it because Nella got upset with you? It’s all my fault. I caused you and Nella to fight…”
Nella was speechless.
Once again, the blame had landed squarely on her shoulders.
“Zocy.”
Alfred cut her off, his voice low and steady.
He glanced at Nella. That usually cool and distant, handsome face now carried a trace of uncertainty.
He turned off the speaker and spoke into the phone with restrained irritation. “This has nothing to do with Nella. I have something to take care of. The driver will be there to pick you up shortly.”
“Alfred…”
Before Zoey could finish, Alfred had already hung up.
Seriously, why does he have to put on this show in front of me? It’s pointless.
Nella sighed inwardly and reached out to press the button for the first floor.
Seeing this, Alfred frowned. “Why did you press the first floor?”
“You should go pick up Ms. Mack. I’ll take the subway.”
Right at that moment, the elevator arrived at the first floor.
Just as Nella was about to step out, Alfred grabbed her arm tightly and refused to let go.
“Nella, do you really have to do this?”
There was a hint of restrained anger in Alfred’s voice.
Nella glanced at the arm he was gripping and sighed helplessly before saying, “You heard it yourself. Ms. Mack has a misunderstanding about me. Her health is more important. Don’t let anything happen to her because of me.”

She truly did not want Alfred to turn his frustration toward her again because of Zoey’s condition.
Alfred’s face darkened. He had understood the unspoken meaning behind her words.
“I’ll take you to the hospital.”
He refused to let go, his grip stubborn and unyielding.
Just then, someone stepped forward, trying to enter the elevator.
Their gazes lingered on Nella and Alfred with open curiosity.
Seeing that Alfred still had no intention of releasing her, Nella’s frown deepened.
Not wanting to waste other people’s time or draw unnecessary attention, she could only grit her teeth and step back into the elevator.
They reached the underground parking garage together and got into his Cullinan.
Alfred rarely drove himself. Most of the time, a driver handled it.
As for her, she almost never had the chance to sit in the front passenger seat while he was driving.
Yet in just these past two days, she had somehow been “honored” enough to sit in it twice.
Nella mocked herself silently.
The entire drive passed in silence.
Alfred drove silently, as if he were holding back his anger.
Only the slight tension in his grip on the steering wheel betrayed his mood.
Since Alfred did not speak, Nella was more than happy to enjoy the quiet and had no intention of starting a conversation.
When the car pulled into the parking lot of Apex Medical University Hospital, they happened to see Zoey stepping out of the car driven by Alfred’s driver.
She recognized Alfred’s car at once.
“Alfred.”
Her face lit up with delight as she hurried toward him.

But the moment she saw Nella step out of the passenger seat, her expression changed completely.
The smile that had just been on her face vanished instantly.
She could not believe that Alfred had come to the hospital with Nella.
The way she looked at Nella was cold and venomous, as if laced with poison.
It was as though Nella had stolen her husband.
