Chapter 81 Really Sick
“Looks like a fever. Take the meds first.”

Alfred took the cup and the pill, swallowed them in one go, then lifted his eyes to look at Nella deeply and said hoarsely, “Thanks.”
“Flu cases have been spiking lately. You should really go to the hospital. If you drag it out, it can easily turn into a lung infection.”
Nella offered the reminder out of goodwill.
Alfred nodded and coughed a few more times.
Nella stood there for a few seconds. The two of them fell into silence.
“Get some rest. I’m heading to work.”
Nella spoke first.
After leaving those words, she continued putting on her shoes and prepared to head out.
Behind her came Alfred’s voice, even raspier from the fever.
“I’m sick. Aren’t you going to take a day off and stay to look after your sick patient?”
Hearing that, Nella instinctively turned to look at him.
She met Alfred’s eyes, which carried a hint of grievance.
Nella stood at the door without moving. After a moment’s hesitation, she said, “Wait a second. I’ll make a call.”
A subtle glimmer lit up in Alfred’s
eyes.
Then he coughed twice, nodded, and stood up, saying to Nella, “My head’s a little dizzy. I’ll go lie down.”
“Okay.”
Before going back into the room, Alfred glanced at Nella once more.
Back in the bedroom, Alfred called Sergio.
“Let everyone know the meeting today is canceled. I’m not going to the office. Call me if anything important comes up.”

“Understood.”
After a pause, the voice on the other end added, “Mr. Keywood, your voice sounds off. Are you sick?”
“Yeah.”
He suppressed a cough and answered.
“Then please rest well. I’ll handle things on the company side.”
“Okay.”
Alfred then remembered something and added, “If it’s not urgent, don’t keep calling me. Handle whatever you can yourself.”
“I understand.”
After hanging up, Alfred touched his still-burning forehead and sat down on the couch.
His mind drifted back to what happened in Nella’s room last night, and his chest heated up all over again.
He knew he wasn’t a man ruled by desire, but when he’d held Nella that close yesterday, he realized he’d completely lost control.
If Nella hadn’t stopped him with those calm, clear eyes, he didn’t know how far he would’ve
gone.
But her
gaze
had been too rational, so rational that he didn’t dare meet it and fled in defeat.
After that, back in his own bedroom, looking at the bed Nella had once slept in, the heat in his lower body surged out of control again.
After blasting himself with a cold shower for an hour, then standing on the balcony in the cold wind for another half hour, he barely managed to suppress it.
The result of all that was catching a fever.
He thought about his nearly three-year marriage to Nella.
And he started to doubt himself.
Three years of sharing a bed with Nella-how the hell did I keep my hands off her?
Could it be that … I’m impotent?

The thought startled Alfred so badly that he broke into violent coughing.
“Cough, cough, cough… cough…”
This time, he was really sick.
