Chapter 82 Take Care of Him
It was, in the end, Alfred’s own doing.
The last time he’d caught a cold and run a fever had been last year.
Finished
He’d developed acute pneumonia and spiked a high fever, and Nella had taken a full day off just to stay home and take care of him.
Not only did she look after him meticulously, but she also stayed with him the entire day.
Thinking back on it now, he finally realized how much he’d overlooked Nella’s kindness toward him.
But today, he wouldn’t anymore.
No matter what, Nella still cares about me.
Even if she holds some resentment in her heart, she can’t bear it when I’m sick. She’s still willing to take time off to stay home with me and look after me.
Just imagining Nella calling the hospital to request leave, Alfred’s lips curled upward in a good mood.
Even the discomfort in his body seemed to ease a little.
In the living room, after Alfred went back into the bedroom, Nella pulled up Sergio’s number on her phone and dialed it.
The call connected quickly, and Sergio’s ingratiating, overly polite voice came through.
“Mrs. Keywood, hello. How can I help you?”
This wasn’t the first time she’d heard Sergio call her “Mrs. Keywood.”
In the past, whenever Sergio called her that, and Alfred didn’t correct him, she’d secretly feel pleased.
It made her feel like she was a little closer to Alfred.
But now, hearing Sergio call her that only made her feel awkward and uncomfortable.
Still, this wasn’t the time to correct him, so she simply said, “Alfred has a fever.”
“Yes, I’m aware. Mr. Keywood just called and told me.”

Nella paused. Alfred told him already?

“Oh, that works out. He’s home alone right now. If it’s convenient, could you come by Emerald Vista Bay to keep an eye on him, or find someone suitable to look after him?”
There was half a second of silence on the other end, followed by a confused, “Huh?”
Then Sergio’s voice came back, sounding clearly troubled.
“Mrs. Keywood, you’re … asking me to take care of Mr. Keywood?”
Hearing the difficulty in his tone, Nella asked, “Is that a problem?”
Sergio hesitated before replying, “Mrs. Keywood, the company happens to have several major projects these days that need Mr. Keywood’s input. Now that he’s sick, I have to personally keep an eye on all of them. I really can’t get away.”
“I see,” Nella murmured softly.
She’d never worked at a large corporation, but she knew Sergio wasn’t lying.
Especially with the end of the year approaching, things were bound to be hectic.
As Alfred’s senior executive assistant, it was only natural that Sergio couldn’t step away at a time like this.
“Mrs. Keywood, please take care of Mr. Keywood for us. You know how he is. Other than work, he can’t manage his daily life at all. Now that he’s sick, he must be … in pretty bad shape.”
Nella was stunned.
Why do I feel like Sergio’s voice is choking up?
Alfred is a grown-up.
Even with a high fever, it’s not tragic enough to make his assistant cry, right?
Knowing that working life wasn’t easy, Nella didn’t make things hard for him.
“Alright. Go ahead and get back to work.”
“Okay. Sorry to trouble you, Mrs. Keywood.”
Sergio finished speaking and hung up with a snap.
The speed suggested he was afraid that if he was even a second slower, Nella might change her mind and send him to take care of Alfred after all.

“Sergio, who called? You look like you just survived a disaster.”
Maisie Warren, the CEO’s chief executive secretary, couldn’t help teasing him when she saw his expression.
