Chapter 84 An Idea
:
“I called Sergio. He didn’t have time to come over.”
The faint curve at Alfred’s lips tightened. “Why did you call him?”

“Aren’t you bad at taking care of yourself when you’re alone? I figured Sergio is your personal assistant, so he could look after you,” Nella answered honestly.
She didn’t pay much attention to the sudden displeasure on Alfred’s face and continued, “But Sergio’s tied up with work and can’t get away. Maybe you could call one of your friends over,
or…”
At this point, she hesitated before going on.
“Or I can call Ms. Mack and have her come to keep you company.”
The moment Nella said that, Alfred’s expression darkened completely.
-“Nella, are you doing this on purpose to piss me off?”
Nella looked confused. “What?”
Seriously, how did I tick him off again?
Do sick people all get this unreasonable?
Seeing her expression, Alfred knew she truly didn’t understand what she’d said wrong.
That powerless feeling came back again. He felt like he was punching air.
“You keep bringing up Zoey. Are you really not trying to get
under my
skin?”
“What?”
Nella looked even more confused.
Cross my heart, I was genuinely trying to help.
People always say that when you’re sick, having someone you care about around helps you recover faster.
Why did he think I was trying to provoke him just because I generously suggested Zoey come to our house to keep him company?
Nella didn’t get it and frowned.

Chapter 84 An Idea
Then a thought clicked.
:
She looked up at him and asked, “Are you worried about tiring her out?”
Alfred’s breathing grew heavier, a clear sign his anger was rising.
But Nella misunderstood it.
She thought she’d guessed right.

So she explained seriously, “I’m not asking her to take care of you or anything. Just to keep you company. You can handle drinking water and taking meds yourself.”
He’s not a giant baby who needs someone to hand-feed him, right?
Nella lowered her eyes slightly and didn’t notice Alfred’s face growing darker by the second.
“Having someone you love around puts you in a better mood. A good mood helps recovery. It’s good for your illness, and it’s also good for her depression.”
Nella kept talking.
Finally, Alfred cut in with a cold, angry laugh. “You’re so considerate.”
Nella nodded in agreement and gave a small smile.
“I just hope you recover faster.”
Alfred stared at her calm face, a heavy frustration clogging his chest with nowhere to go.
A good mood helps recovery?
So by pissing me off now, does she want me dead so she can become a widow?
I won’t let her have her way.
He took a deep breath and forced the frustration back down.
Softening his tone as much as he could, he said, “I’ve told you before. Zoey and I aren’t what you think.”
Nella didn’t want to argue with him about this anymore. She nodded easily.
“Then think of it as close friends keeping each other warm.”
After saying that, she raised her wrist and checked the time.
