Alfred lowered his eyes and said nothing. Zoey had no idea what he was thinking.

Seeing that she was crying so hard and he still didn’t try to comfort her, her tears slowly lost their momentum.

She resentfully pulled herself together, her sobs weakening.

“Alfred…”

“She misunderstood us because some of our behavior really did cross the line.”

Alfred suddenly spoke.

That single sentence instantly left Zoey speechless.

The disbelief in her eyes became painfully obvious.

“Alfred…”

“Zoey, you’re going to get married someday. You really shouldn’t come to me for everything. Otherwise, not only will Nella misunderstand, but your future husband will misunderstand

too.”

Alfred continued calmly, “Of course, if you ever need help, you can just contact Sergio. He’ll take care of it for you.”

The shock in Zoey’s eyes deepened, the emotions inside them churning as if they were about to collapse.

“Alfred, are you sick of me too? You don’t want me anymore?”

Her face went pale, her voice turning sharp.

Her emotions suddenly spiraled out of control. She shook her head and muttered nonstop.

“I knew it. I deserve to die. I shouldn’t exist in this world. I’m someone nobody wants. I should die. I should die…”

She shook her head violently, then clutched her head and crouched down.

Sensing something was wrong, Alfred hurried over and held her.

“Zoey! Zoey, calm down. Zocy.”

But Zoey seemed to be trapped in her own world, repeating over and over, “I should die. I shouldn’t be alive. I’m just a burden.

“I made you and Nella fight. I ruined your family. I’m a homewrecker.

“Yes. Homewreckers like me deserve to die. I should just die.”

Her eyes were bloodshot.

Suddenly, she noticed the fruit knife lying in the fruit plate on the coffee table.

She lunged for it.

“I should just die. I should just die!”

Her eyes were filled with viciousness and rage.

The sharp knife was aimed straight at her wrist.

“Zoey!”

Alfred shouted and grabbed the blade with his bare hand.

In an instant, vivid red blood splashed across the knife.

Blood dripped down the blade, drop by drop.

At that moment, Zoey seemed to snap back to her senses.

“Ah!!!” she screamed and threw the knife to the floor.

“Alfred, are you okay?”

She rushed to his side and reached for his hand.

But Alfred avoided her a split second faster.

“It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault. Alfred, I lost control just now, didn’t I? I hurt you, didn’t I? Let

me see. Please.”

Zoey panicked, tears streaming.

She clutched Alfred’s hand tightly, making him suck in a sharp breath of pain.

Just as he tried to pull away, the sound of the door unlocking rang out. Nella pushed the door open and walked in.

This was the scene she walked into.

:.

Zoey was kneeling by Alfred’s feet, both hands clasping his.

The two were very close.

From Nella’s angle, their heads were nearly touching, the posture intimate and ambiguous.

Alfred jerked his head up. The moment his eyes met Nella’s, he knew she’d misunderstood.
