Chapter 91 Be Good
Almost instinctively, Alfred shoved Zoey away from him.
He sprang up from the couch and hurried toward Nella.
“It’s not what it looks like.”
Before Nella could speak, he was already explaining in a panic.
He was terrified she wouldn’t believe him.

Nella’s expression didn’t change. But when she noticed the pool of blood on the light beige cashmere rug beside the couch, her brow tightened slightly.
“Who’s hurt?”
The moment she finished speaking, Alfred immediately held his hand out in front of her and said softly, “Me.”
As if afraid she wouldn’t see clearly, he extended his palm even more, like a student who’d done something wrong.
“I’m the one who’s hurt.”
Nella glanced at his palm.
“It’s pretty deep. We need to treat it right away.”
Her voice was steady, without a hint of panic.
Alfred watched as she calmly went to get the first-aid kit, motioned for him to sit down, and began treating the wound.
She treated him as if he was an ordinary patient with no personal connection.
She was professional and methodical.
There was none of the concern or anxiety one would expect from a wife.
“The cut is deep. Luckily, it didn’t hit an artery, but this depth could’ve damaged nearby nerve tissue. We don’t have suturing equipment at home. We need to go to the hospital immediately.”
After a quick wrap, Nella looked at Alfred and said so plainly.
For once, Alfred was obedient.

He nodded and agreed without hesitation.
“There’s no time to change clothes. I’ll grab you a jacket to throw on, okay?”
Nella asked for his input.
Alfred nodded cooperatively.
“Yeah. Whatever you say.”
The tone of his voice was so soft that he didn’t even notice it himself.
Zoey stood off to the side, silent, her gaze growing darker by the second.
Nella quickly pulled a warm down jacket from the main bedroom closet and draped it over Alfred’s shoulders.
She picked up the Cullinan car keys from the entryway.
“Let’s not wait for your driver. I’ll drive.”
Alfred nodded again. “Okay.”
The corner of his mouth even curved into the faintest smile.
As if the hand bleeding nonstop wasn’t his.
“Alfred, I’ll
go with you.”
Zoey hurried after them, shooting Nella a vicious glare from an angle Alfred couldn’t see.
Nella didn’t care whether Zoey followed or not. She put her shoes back on and pressed the elevator button.
Then she heard Alfred say to Zoey, “You’re shaken. Stay here and rest for a bit. I’ll have Richie
home.”

Zoey’s expression froze instantly.
“Alfred…”
Alfred didn’t know whether it was the high fever or the blood loss.
His face was pale, and he didn’t spare Zoey much attention.
Nella stood quietly to the side, saying nothing.

She looked like a driver with no personal stake, waiting to take her boss to the hospital.
Anything else had nothing to do with her.
The elevator arrived.
Nella stepped inside first.
Alfred followed, but blocked Zoey as she tried to step in.
“Zoey. Be good.”
