Chapter 93 Too Close for Comfort
The Cullinan interior was spacious, yet at this moment, it felt inexplicably cramped.

One of Nella’s arms was braced against Alfred’s thigh through the thin fabric of his sleepwear, the other reaching for the seatbelt.
Her forearm brushed against Alfred’s waist and abdomen.
Through the thin layer of fabric, his fever-hot body heat traveled straight to her skin, like an electric current, so hot that her fingertips went numb.
She reflexively curled them slightly.
Even the seatbelt buckle in her hand felt scorching hot.
Alfred didn’t move. He only had his eyes half open, his gaze resting on Nella’s close side profile, his Adam’s apple rolling unconsciously.
Nella lowered her eyes and calmly pulled the seatbelt across him.
Click. The buckle snapped into place.
Alfred snapped back to himself.
Realizing the strange feeling that had just crossed his mind, a hint of awkwardness flashed in his eyes.
Nella straightened up without looking at Alfred, started the car, and pressed the accelerator.
The Cullinan shot out of the luxury garage with its starlit ceiling at high speed.
It was rush hour, and the roads were badly congested.
Yet Alfred found it strange that the car didn’t stop once along the way.
The massive Cullinan moved like it owned the lane.
It forced its way through the packed traffic and claimed its own space.
Alfred leaned lazily against the seat, quietly watching Nella drive with focused seriousness.
She said nothing, her expression intent.
Her eyelashes were long. When her eyes were lowered, shadows pooled beneath them.

When she blinked, they fluttered up and down.
Like a feather suddenly brushing across his chest.
It left him itchy and restless.

His fingers unconsciously rubbed his lower abdomen where she’d accidentally brushed earlier.
The soft sensation was still vivid.
“I didn’t expect you to be such a good driver,” he spoke hoarsely, making conversation just to say something.
Nella’s eyes stayed on the road.
Hearing him speak, she paused briefly and said, “I just know the roads well.”
She didn’t look at him and had no interest in chatting.
But Alfred seemed to perk up and kept trying to make small talk.
“Since you can drive, how come I never see you drive to work?”
Nella stayed focused on traffic.
Clearly uninterested, she replied, “The subway’s more convenient.”
Sensing he was about to speak again, Nella cut him off first, “Save your energy. Don’t talk.”
The words Alfred was about to say were forced back down.
He opened his mouth, a hint of grievance flickering in his eyes.
But in the end, he said nothing.
He heard the impatience in her tone.
At Apex Medical University Hospital.
Nella parked the car, then walked around to open Alfred’s door.
“Can you
walk on your own?”
She really didn’t want to support him in that intimate way again.
Alfred swung his long legs out of the car and looked up at Nella.

That look was fragile and pitiful. “I think so.”
He took two steps forward, then he suddenly stumbled, nearly pitching forward.
Almost purely on instinct, Nella reached out and caught him.
