Scarlett's head whipped back around, eyes wide with alarm. "You're staying? What for?"
Damian let out a low chuckle. "To sleep with you."
She froze. "Damian, you... you're shameless."
His grin widened, taking on a wicked edge. "Just sleep. Nothing more. What'd you think I meant?"
Scarlett's face burned crimson. "I don't need you to stay. I'm perfectly capable of sleeping alone," she said coldly.
She was scared. If Damian stayed, things might spiral out of control again.
She was terrified. His tactics—she felt herself slowly losing the ability to resist.
She was afraid that one day, she might actually give in.
Watching her flustered, red-cheeked expression, something warm bloomed in Damian's chest. The smile never left his face. "Clara told me. Said you were calling my name all morning. You missed me that much—how could I be cruel enough to leave?"
Scarlett turned away, trying to shield herself from his intoxicating presence with silence.
But her quiet only made him want to tease her more.
He leaned closer. His warm breath brushed against her ear, and that low, husky chuckle of his carried a pull she found hard to resist.
A smirk played on his lips. "I'm right here. You can touch me if you want, kiss me if you want. Isn't that better than just dreaming about it?"
A few words, and Damian had turned her whole face deep red.
She tried to pull back, but he was too close. With her injured leg, she couldn't even escape his gaze.
Trapped, she had no choice but to turn and look at him.
The moment their eyes met, her heart skipped.
Despite that roguish look on his face, Damian's eyes held a sincerity she couldn't ignore.
She quickly looked away. Didn't look at him. Didn't say a word.
Seeing her reluctance to speak, he pushed. "What're you thinking about? Face is all red."
She scoffed. "None of your business."
The more she refused to answer, the more curious he got.
He leaned in even closer, his lips grazing her skin as his warm breath ghosted over her ear. "You thinking about my body?"
Her face flushed darker. She turned away. "No."
Before Scarlett could say anything else, her phone on the bedside table suddenly rang.
She turned her head—Vincent.
She reached out, trying to grab it.
But Damian's body blocked her like a wall. Her hand couldn't reach.
Seeing that, Scarlett started to panic a little. "Damian, let go. I need to get that."
Damian had seen the caller ID too. His expression darkened instantly. He held her tighter. "You're not answering his call."
Scarlett argued back. "Damian, I have to. Let me go."
He only held her closer, as if afraid of losing her. The force was so strong his whole body trembled slightly.
His voice came out choked against her ear. "No... no, I won't let you."
At that moment, Scarlett couldn't worry about Damian's feelings. All she could think about was whether Vincent's call was about the divorce.
She was terrified that if she missed it, she'd have to wait all over again.
