When Scarlett and Vincent got married, not one person from her family had set foot in Stewart Manor.
But now that Scarlett was trying to divorce him, they couldn't just sit back and do nothing.
The next morning, right as the first light of dawn crept over the horizon, Henry and Diana slipped out of Theron Manor.
Nathan had already left for the office, and Violet was busy getting Clara ready for kindergarten, so nobody noticed the two of them heading out.
They caught a cab to Ravenshade Villa. The moment the car pulled up to the front gate, they spotted Vincent walking out the main entrance.
Henry hurried forward as soon as he saw him. "Vincent."
Vincent glanced over, a flicker of surprise crossing his face, but he said nothing.
When Vincent didn't respond, Henry pressed on. "You got a minute?"
This time, Vincent answered flatly, "No."
His voice was cold, like a door slamming shut.
Henry forced a smile anyway. "When might you have some time? We just want to ask you a few things."
Vincent didn't say another word. He just opened his car door and slid inside.
But the car didn't pull away right away. He rolled down the window and let his gaze sweep over them, cold and sharp. "I don't have time. Ever."
Afraid he'd drive off, Diana quickly pressed her hand against the window frame. "Vincent, my daughter's been married to you for years. She's worked herself to the bone raising those kids, then went back to work without a word of complaint. What did she ever do to you? Now all she wants is a divorce—why won't you just let her go?"
Vincent's eyes dropped to her hand on the window, his expression hard as stone. He let out a cold laugh. "If you really think that's nothing, then I guess she's just like you—absolutely shameless."
Without another word, he hit the button and the window started rolling up.
The car lurched forward, and Diana's finger got caught in the gap as the glass rose.
She gasped, a sharp cry escaping her lips.
Henry rushed over, grabbed her hand, and saw blood welling up from the pinch. Without thinking, he brought it to his mouth.
Diana smacked him on the head. "We're not teenagers anymore—what are you doing? Have some shame!"
Henry held her hand tight, his eyes full of worry. "I'm so sorry."
At those words, Diana's eyes instantly filled with tears.
A moment later, she couldn't hold it in anymore. "Our family's always been good—how did our Scarlett end up so unlucky, stuck with a man like that?"
Henry let out a helpless sigh. "It's okay. Things'll get better."
Diana's voice cracked. "But what if they don't?"
She was terrified things wouldn't get better. And even more terrified that Vincent would never agree to let her daughter go.
