With a bitter chuckle, she pushed open the door and stepped out.
Walking through the front entrance, Vincent noticed Scarlett hadn't followed, so he paused and looked back.
Seeing her approaching, he kept quiet.
As she drew close, the two walked into the estate side by side.
Reaching the main foyer, Freya spotted them arriving together.
Seeing Scarlett, Freya asked in shock, "Mrs. Stewart?"
Hearing that title, Scarlett's heart thudded in panic.
It had been ages since anyone called her that.
A wave of disorientation washed over her in that beat.
Snapping out of it, she murmured with a sarcastic smile, "Mrs. Stewart?"
Standing right beside her, Vincent caught the bitterness in her tone, asking mild, "Aren't you?"
Lacking energy to argue, Scarlett replied, "If you say so, then whatever."
Seeing her dismissive attitude, Vincent thought of Damian again, his face turning cold.
A second later, he lowered his voice, "Staying with him made you forget who you are?"
Scarlett looked up at Vincent, asking, "What are you actually trying to say?"
Standing under the porch light, illumination cascading over him, Vincent looked into her eyes, "I brought you back to be Mrs. Stewart."
Scarlett simply let out a cool, dismissive scoff.
Yet Vincent added unexpectedly, "I mean just like before."
He stared at her earnestly, trying to catch a spark of emotion in her eyes.
Yet he found absolutely nothing.
Her eyes held coldness and nothing more.
After a long pause, Scarlett sneered dismissively, "You think we can go back to how things were?"
Refusing to give up, Vincent countered, "Won't know until we try."
Still smiling, Scarlett stated in a flat tone, "Vincent, the only constant in this world is change—we can never return to the past, because I don't love you anymore."
