No Second Chances Ex-husband (Lauren and Ethan) novel Chapter 220

**He Chased 220**

**ELIZABETH’S POV**

The moment my phone buzzed for the umpteenth time, I knew precisely who was on the other end. Jessica had a knack for cutting through the mundane, and this time was no different. She was like a hawk, waiting to swoop down on the most tantalizing morsels of gossip, especially when it involved my life. I could almost hear her impatience as the phone vibrated against the soft covers of my bed, urging me to answer. I exhaled softly, bracing myself, and lifted the device to my ear.

“Tell me, did you confirm it? Is she your twin?” Jessica’s voice burst forth with an urgency that suggested she had been holding her breath all day, just waiting for this moment.

“Well, based on what I’ve seen so far, I would say yes. Just like you mentioned, there’s really no need for a hospital visit to confirm it. She looked exactly like my reflection today; it was uncanny. We even wore the same dress!” I replied, settling onto my bed and crossing my legs, allowing myself to sink into the plush mattress as if it could absorb my thoughts.

“Wow, that’s fantastic news! I’m genuinely thrilled for you,” Jessica exclaimed, her enthusiasm palpable even through the phone.

“Yeah, whatever,” I muttered, brushing it off as if it were just another mundane update from a stranger I barely knew.

“For someone who just discovered a twin sister she never knew existed, you don’t sound particularly thrilled,” she observed, a hint of disappointment creeping into her tone.

“Well, I’m not. What’s there to be excited about?” I said, leaning back on my palm, contemplating the weight of the revelation.

“First of all, she’s your family. That alone should bring you some joy,” Jessica pressed, as if trying to unearth some hidden excitement within me.

“Honestly, it doesn’t. I’ve asked myself that same question repeatedly, but the truth is, I’m not even particularly happy about meeting her,” I admitted, picking at a loose thread on the blanket, my fingers tracing the fabric as if searching for answers.

“Why not? She’s your sister,” she reiterated, her voice laced with confusion.

“I know that, Jessica. But just because I’ve found her doesn’t mean everything will magically fall into place. Some siblings go years without speaking, and others sever ties completely. I don’t see why I should be jumping for joy. Besides, my focus wasn’t even on her,” I said bluntly, my heart heavy with the reality of my feelings.

“Then who was it on?” she probed, her curiosity piqued, and I could sense her leaning in closer, eager for the next piece of the puzzle.

“Well, I thought she was coming alone, but you wouldn’t believe who she strolled in with,” I said, the excitement bubbling up in my voice despite myself.

“Who?” Jessica asked, her tone shifting to one of eager anticipation.

“To my utter surprise, she walked in there with Roman Hale. Yes, the Roman Hale,” I said, savoring each syllable as if relishing the taste of a forbidden fruit.

“The billionaire you’re always gushing about? The one you have a crush on?” Jessica asked, her voice rising in disbelief.

“Yes, exactly!” I replied, a goofy smile spreading across my face, feeling like a schoolgirl with a crush.

“How did she manage to snag someone like him?” Jessica wondered aloud, her voice tinged with awe.

“Come on, she has my looks too,” I answered, a hint of pride slipping into my tone, as if I were claiming a small victory for myself.

“If it were any other woman, that question might have stumped me. But since it’s my sister, I have plenty of answers. First off, let’s not forget, I share the face of the woman he fell for,” I said, a smirk creeping onto my lips.

“And what about your personality? It’s not all about looks,” Jessica countered, her tone skeptical.

“Well, as I mentioned, I’m currently on a little journey to become a better person for Roman. I just started a few hours ago, so give me some time to transform,” I said, stretching my legs out before me, feeling a sense of empowerment.

“It seems you’ve already made up your mind, so nothing I say will change that. What frightens me is that you might actually pull this off,” Jessica admitted, a mix of admiration and concern in her voice.

“I know, right?” I replied, a proud smile illuminating my face.

“We’ve been friends for years. I’ve seen you effortlessly steal boyfriends from other girls, so I already know how this will end. But it’s going to hurt your sister when she finds out,” Jessica said, her tone shifting to one of genuine worry.

“She’ll be fine. They always are,” I said, dismissing the thought with a wave of my hand as if it were nothing more than a pesky fly.

“Do you remember that time I even stole that gay guy’s boyfriend? I mean, I deserve an award for that alone. I literally turned a gay man straight, and he fell for me,” I said, a triumphant grin spreading across my face.

“They always do,” Jessica replied, her voice a mixture of admiration and concern.

I leaned back against the pillows, feeling that familiar warmth of confidence envelop me like a crown, ready to take on the world.
