Author’s POV.
Alex stared at her like she didn’t mean a thing. His face was blank, completely void of emotion—but his heart? His heart was in so much pain. He was trying so hard to look like the bad person he wanted to be.
He carried nothing less than hate, and Travy feared to believe what her eyes were reading. But his heart was damaged. He wished he hadn’t met her today. He wished he’d met her days later—days when he might’ve healed a little, away from her.
Without saying a word, he slipped his hands into his pockets and walked away.
Travy’s hand gripped his wrist, pulling his steps to a halt. Her heart pierced, sinking into her stomach.
He turned to her, shut off his wrist, and glared.
“You didn’t give me a reply.” She tried not to sound broken, but her voice betrayed her. It came out so shaky, it broke his heart even more. But he was determined to do this—for her, for himself, for Axel, for all of them.
“I do not have words for you, Tracy.”
His voice was stern, and he was grateful for his composure.
Tracy’s eyes watered as she stared at him bitterly. He looked so much like the man she gave her body and heart to—but his attitude said otherwise. Still, Tracy refused to believe the cold viper-like look on his face was meant for her.
“You… you left. And you haven’t been picking my calls.” Her eyes searched his with hope, praying for a better reason. But all she found was coldness. The way he stared into her eyes with so much distance—like he’d never shared anything with her—was something she couldn’t comprehend. Not from the man who had possessed and adored her body just a day ago.
“I do not have a reason for leaving. I do not want you anymore.”
That hit her hard. She scoffed back the tears, her heart shredding into pieces. She stared at him, blinking rapidly, trying to comprehend what those words truly meant.
“You… you said you loved me,” she whispered, her voice trembling.
He scoffed at her words.
“Does that sound real?”
The question made her feel stupid. She took a step back and looked him over from head to toe.
“But… but that’s what you said to me,” she managed, even though she knew she sounded foolish.
“Well, if I ever said that… it was before I got what I wanted, Tracy. It was never love—it was just about the body.”
Those words didn’t come out of his mouth the way he wanted, but they still managed to break her. He could see clearly that she was fighting the tears. That broke him too. He stiffened, watching her expression. She was trying so hard not to cry.
This isn’t what he wanted. Right now, he was holding back from slamming his lips onto hers and confessing everything. Every truth. Every ache in his chest.
“You… said you loved me, Alex. You sounded so real,” she stammered, refusing to believe he played her.
“I played you, Tracy. I never loved you.”
“Then why did you lie to me? Why did you come back after the first time? Why did you possess me and make me feel like I was yours? You told me you owned me—my body, my heart, my soul. You said you owned every part of me,” she cried out.
He fisted his hands in pain.
Watching her tears fall shattered him. His hands itched to cup her face, to run across her cheeks and tell her not to cry. He wanted to hold her, kiss her, and whisper those three heart-melting words. But if he did, he’d be a coward.
Pulling himself together, he spoke again—firmly.
“I don’t love you, Tracy. Whatever I said was for the pussy. I’ve gotten it. We can’t be together.”
Tracy’s heart shattered completely. She stood frozen as her world crumbled before her. Her throat dried up, a bead of sweat forming on her forehead. It felt like someone had thrust a dagger deep into her chest. She swore she could feel the physical pain.
She looked at him one last time, eyes filled with unbearable pain, then stormed out of the house. She clutched her bag tightly, her hand covering her mouth as she sobbed and ran out.
Hazel descended the stairs just then. She gave Alex a sad, disappointed glare, then hurried after Tracy, calling out to her friend who was already far gone. She had overheard everything.
Alex let out a pained sigh. As he took a step forward, he suddenly halted—face-to-face with a dangerously furious-looking Axel.
For some unknown reason, Alex’s heart leapt. He stared down, guilt crushing him.
“Of course you didn’t…” Axel’s voice lowered again, sharp but quiet. “I know you, Alex. I’ve never seen you like that. You looked like you were forcing every word out of your mouth. You sounded like you had to say them. What made you sound that way? Why did you act like that? Why did you hurt her?”
“Because I… never really loved her… I… I’m not good for her.” He admitted the words through clenched teeth, and Axel smirked, but there was no humor in it.
“What makes you think that?”
“Because… because… I can’t love her right. Because I’m going to hurt her—deeply. And she’ll never forgive me,” he finished quietly.
Axel stared at him for a long moment, eyes narrowed. Then he exhaled, slow and pained.
“You should’ve thought about that, Alex. I wish you never broke her. I really wish you never did.”
Without another word, Axel turned and walked away, leaving Alex with his head bowed in pain and shame.
**********
Axel walked through the hallway, every step echoing his thoughts. He kept seeing the way Tracy had run out, her eyes full of tears and betrayal. His heart leaped again, clenching tight.
And then he asked himself the question—Why do you care?
It was the right thing to ask. He barely knew Tracy. He knew nothing about her family, where she came from, what her story was. Yet the sight of her pain had shaken him. It sat like a heavy weight on his chest.
He tried to shrug it off, telling himself that if Alexia were alive, he’d have done the same. That this pain came from a place of loyalty, not something deeper. But the more he tried to reason it away, the heavier the bond felt.
He doubled his pace, walking briskly through the hall. He was going to find Hazel. He needed to know more about Tracy—about her background, her life. This strange bond—it wasn’t something he could ignore.
He wasn’t scared of anything. He knew he loved Hazel and no one else.
But this bond…
Could it be…?
