But she didn’t call him out on it. “Sit up properly,” she said calmly. “I’ll feed you.”

“My mom calls my dad by a nickname,” he explained. “Sophia calls Michael by one too. They never use full names when they’re alone.”

Aella cleared her throat. After a short pause, she tried again, a little unsure. “Dan?”

They looked at each other. Daniel couldn’t help himself. He leaned in and stole a quick kiss on her cheek.

Just a word made him feel like his blood was rushing everywhere at once.
