A golden figure blitzed through the battlefield, leaped into the air, stretched out his gauntleted fingers, and caught the bullet in his palm right before it touched Thalia’s eyes.
Godfrey tilted his head slightly mid-air before grabbing Thalia and landing lightly. The moment Bram, who was at the far end of the battlefield, laid eyes on him, he ignored Dax and sent his summon after Godfrey.
However, despite the Tiger Knight Beetle’s frightening speed that broke the sound barrier, it saw a ghostly four-armed skeleton running beside it.
Just then, the skeleton snapped its head toward the beetle, and both of them clashed, the beetle’s sword-like legs against the skeleton’s weapons.
"Focus on us," Dax said as he stood beside his summon, holding an Echo of the massive titan hammer his summon wielded. Both of them slung it over their shoulders.
The golden markings on Dax’s summon shimmered as it tightened its grip around the handle of the massive hammer.
Bram clenched his teeth as he summoned a projection of his Tiger Knight Beetle. He would have to leave Godfrey to Snow and the Invincibles.
It seemed they would have to rely on them at the end of the day.
"Finally..." Snow said, staring at the man with the golden mask and golden armor. His cloak fluttered, making him look like a golden prince in the midst of the battlefield.
Snow retrieved his wings and flew back. Godfrey took one step and lightning pulsed, launching him off the ground as the earth rippled and shattered. He landed on a building, shattering a portion of the rooftop, then leaped again, following Snow, who landed away from the battlefield.
Godfrey stood a hundred feet away.
"What did you feel after killing so many people? I thought you hated how the world is. I thought you wanted peace?" Snow asked.
"I came to the point where it was either them or me. To my mother, I am her beloved son, a hero, but to the families of those people, I am a demon that should be killed. I’ve always wanted to be someone people looked up to, like the stories my mother told me about my father."
Godfrey sighed. "I never understood the bullying. Eventually, I came to understand that human beings have different minds, different opinions. I wanted to keep my mother alive and myself out of their claws, and taking down those before me was the only way."
Snow shut his eyes. "You sound like a Fanatic. You take lives just because they stand in your way? That’s not the Godfrey I knew."
"You’re right," Godfrey replied. "I should have told the entire world that my mother’s life was at stake? When you are among the same people who called me trash when my father died saving at least half a city, one life for millions, maybe even billions. Tell me, who will the majority stand with?"
Snow squinted.
"You’re aiding the authorities in killing Vagabonds, people who ran away from being subjected to demeaning acts against humanoid summoners. All they want is freedom, yet you join the institute that hunts them," Godfrey said firmly.
Snow looked at his hands. Vagabonds were killers, potential weapons for the Fanatics to exploit. They had already been killing Agents for a long time.
But... was it like what Godfrey said? Did they just have to fight back to protect themselves?
Was he killing freedom fighters?
Snow’s hands trembled. Just what was going on? Why should he trust what came out of the mouth of someone who had killed hundreds when he could have subdued them?
But could he? Was the news even right?
In a room on the second floor of an abandoned building covered with greenery, two men watched the teens. One of them was Henry, and the other wore an orange jumpsuit with suppressor cuffs around his wrists.
