Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce novel Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: He Accompanies His Widowed Sister-in-Law’s Labor

She stood at the door of the hospital room and saw Sunny Reed handing Walker Grant water. He didn’t even reach out to take it, instead leaning in to drink right from her hand.

Chloe Reed clutched the divorce papers tightly. The moment she pushed the door open, Noah Grant—his little face flushed from his fever—shuddered and began to cry in Walker Grant’s arms.

No one had expected her to show up.

Walker Grant’s sharp brows knitted together. He asked in a deep voice, "Chloe, what are you doing? Noah just fell asleep."

"What does that have to do with me?" Chloe Reed retorted. "And what does it have to do with you? Is he your son? Why do you care so much?"

"Chloe!" Walker Grant’s tone grew harsher. "He’s just a little boy, and he’s sick. If you want to throw a tantrum, wait until I get home. Don’t disturb his rest now."

Never mind that she was here to deliver divorce papers. Under normal circumstances, as his aunt, she had every right to come see her nephew.

And yet, the moment she appeared, Walker Grant’s immediate reaction was to assume she was causing a scene.

Her thoughts snapping back to the present, Chloe Reed held the divorce papers out toward Walker Grant.

"Sign it. The sooner you sign, the sooner the cooling-off period will be over."

Walker Grant’s expression was icy, as if he were looking at a petulant child.

Sunny Reed walked over and said, "Chloe, has there been some kind of misunderstanding? Walker just came to see Noah. His condition has stabilized now, so why don’t you two go home together?"

She leaned down close to Noah Grant and cooed softly, "Noah, come to Mommy. Uncle needs to go home and rest."

Only three years old, Noah Grant was a tiny bundle, his little face haggard from his illness. He gripped Walker Grant’s collar and refused to let go, whimpering, "I want Uncle... Uncle, don’t go..."

A troubled look appeared on Sunny Reed’s face, and her tone sharpened slightly. "Noah, be good. Come to Mommy."
