Chapter 10 I Don’t Want Another Life With You

After everything was done, Sherry returned to my grave.

She stayed there for three days and nights, barely eating or drinking. She let the wind cut through her and the rain soak her clothes until she looked less like a living person and more like a ghost waiting to fade away.

Her assistant came to persuade her. “Ms. Bennett, your health-”

“Leave,” Sherry rasped. “Let me stay with him.”

The assistant sighed and walked away.

I floated beside her, watching her hollow cheeks and the strands of white in her hair. For the first time in a long while, my heart ached.

This woman had once been the sister I loved most. Now, she had become this.

To avenge me, she had destroyed Mason with her own hands. She had destroyed herself as well.

Not long after, Sherry fell ill. The doctors said it was heart failure and that she had three months left at most, but she refused treatment.

“I don’t want to live anymore,” she told the doctor quietly. “I want to go be with my brother.”

Then, she returned to Bennett Estate and donated everything she owned-properties, accounts, shares, all of it.

With the remainder of the Bennett fortune, she founded the Landon Promise Foundation, a charity that supports orphaned children without guardians.

When everything was settled, Sherry took my urn and went to the coast. It was the beach we had loved most as

children.

“Landon, do you remember?” she whispered, clutching the urn. “When we were kids, you said you wanted to see the ocean. Mom and Dad took us here. You dashed across the sand as if you owned it all. You laughed so loudly that day.”

Her eyes filled with tears as she looked toward the waves.

“Back then, I promised myself I would keep you that happy forever.” Her voice broke. “But I broke that promise.”

She opened the urn and scattered my ashes into the sea.

“Landon,” she whispered, “you’re free now. Go wherever you want to go. Don’t suffer anymore.”

The sea breeze rose, carrying my ashes far across the water, At the same time, my soul began to turn transparent. I knew it was time for me to leave, but I could not bring myself to go.

I could not leave the person who had once loved me more than anyone else.

“Sherry…” I tried to call her, but she could not hear me. She only stood by the water, watching the last traces of me disappear into the waves.

Then, she entered the sea, going deeper and deeper. A faint, relieved smile rested on her face as the water rose around her and finally swallowed her whole.

“No!”

1 tried to reach for her, but I could not touch anything.

All I could do was watch as the waves closed over her and the ocean slowly returned to peace, as if nothing had happened af all.

Three days afterward, Sherry’s body was discovered near the shoreline.

She was clutching an old photograph of us as children. In the picture, she held me in her arms with a warm smile, while I leaned against her shoulder, laughing without a care in the world.

That was the happiest time of our lives, a time we could never return to.
