Chapter 9 Julian, We’re Unstoppable!

“Three?”

Merrick wanted to question Julian, but Julian had been the first one to notice the second Tarric Scorpion.

And when Merrick asked, Julian looked completely indifferent, as if Merrick could believe him or not.

“It’s better to be careful and wrong than careless and dead,” Cole said.

While Merrick held off the second scorpion, Cole quickly put away his damaged mecha. His brown bear spirit form caught him steadily.

Without Cole and the bear helping, the blazing hound and the sparrowhawk alone clearly could not suppress the first scorpion.

Merrick was soon being attacked from both sides.

Then he remembered Julian saying there was still a third Tarric Scorpion at the scene.

For the first time since landing on Zerath, Merrick felt pressure.

“Silas, bring Talia over.”

“Got it.”

Silas whistled, and the sparrowhawk immediately flew back.

“Talia, listen to me. We need to help Merrick and Cole. Otherwise, we may not be able to protect you.”

As Silas spoke to Talia, the sparrowhawk landed beside them.

Silas pulled the pale-faced Talia onto the hawk’s back, and the two of them flew toward Merrick’s mecha.

The moment the two Tarric Scorpions sensed the Omega, they grew visibly excited.

Julian tilted his head.

In the original owner’s memories, Omegas were the insectoids’ favorite food.

Sure enough, in the next instant, he sensed the scorpion hidden underground move.

It was heading straight for the sparrowhawk flying toward the bright red mecha.

“Silas, watch the ground. The third scorpion is coming for you.”

Almost the second Julian spoke, a Tarric Scorpion burst out of the ground. Its sharp stinger stabbed viciously toward the sparrowhawk.

Julian’s warning helped the sparrowhawk avoid a fatal hit, but its tail was still caught by the stinger. With no other choice, the bird tore itself free, sacrificing its tail to survive.

A spirit form was the manifestation of its owner’s psychic power.

Silas clutched his head in pain.

For one instant, Cole felt all the blood in his body turn cold.

Was this it?

Was he going to die?

“What are you standing there for?”

A blast of energy suddenly flared, bright as a rising sun. It streaked over Cole’s head and slammed precisely into the massive claw swinging toward him.

“Run!”

Julian’s voice seemed to flip a switch inside Cole.

Cole instantly pulled out his protective device and leapt off the brown bear’s head.

“Holy crap, Julian! We’re unstoppable!”

Noah cheered beside Julian. The high-energy quantum cannon had been prepared for him by his father.

It did not matter if Noah could not aim.

His roommate could.

Julian said nothing. He immediately adjusted the crooked cannon on his shoulder and activated the barrel’s charging system again.

The energy cannon was powerful, but not powerful enough to break through an A-rank Tarric Scorpion’s defense.

Still, failing to pierce its armor did not mean it did not hurt.

The second scorpion roared at once and whipped its huge stinger toward Cole, who had just landed and started sprinting across the ground.

Just as the stinger was about to hit him, another energy blast shot in and forced it aside at the last possible

second.

“Don’t run toward the cover. If you bring it here, we all die.”

Cole: “…”

After Julian’s warning, Cole could only stumble away and keep running in another direction.

At least Alphas had exceptional stamina, even if they could not trade blows with insectoids the way spirit forms could.

With Cole and Julian working together to stall two scorpions, the blazing hound successfully blocked the last one, giving Merrick the chance to regroup with Talia.

The cockpit hatch slowly closed.
