Chapter 445 Bait Above the Clouds

More than half of the cold white illumination grid had collapsed.

The surviving lights flickered over the organic carapace surging across the surface. Each time a beam swept past, the entire layer of “soil” shuddered together.

Insectoids.

The whole planet was covered in insectoids.

“Land.”

The instant Julian issued the order, the fleet compressed into a blurred cluster of gray-white lights in the distance, like a field of stars descending from the universe.

“Mecha units, deploy.”

As the starships pierced the atmosphere and descended toward Mercury Star, Adrian Whitmore led the mecha force away from the formation and met the approaching insectoids in battle.

Everfrost wielded a massive crescent glaive. Each strike moved like a diving dragon, and every insectoid caught beneath the blade split cleanly in two.

With Everfrost clearing the path, Leon Pike and the other pilots entered the fight without difficulty, sending every kind of weapon roaring through the enemy.

Starships dominated warfare in open space. Battles fought inside a planet relied far more heavily on mecha so the military could protect the land and avoid destroying the world it

meant to save.

“These insectoids seem smarter again.”

Marston watched the surveillance feeds, his face grave.

The more creatures Adrian and the others killed, the less willing the survivors became to charge blindly. They slipped into buildings and even burrowed beneath the ground.

“They hide and then refuse to move. That’s more than a little smarter,” Harold said, scratching his head.

When insectoids had been stupid, humans could lure them, retreat, and control the rhythm of battle.

Now?

Chapter 445 Bait Above the Clouds

The insectoids were doing the same thing to humanity.

“They’ve turned the tables on us!”

Julian was displeased.

If he had to locate the creatures one by one, how long would this job take?

Forever?

Absolutely not.

“I’m going down.”

Julian looked at Rowan and Marston. He was informing them, not asking permission.

Marston did not belong to the Second or Third Legion and had little experience dealing with Julian. Rowan finally had to ask, “What do you intend to do down there, Your Grace?”

“Fish.”

Julian gave Rowan one glance. His eyes said everything: Stop asking foolish questions. I have my own rhythm. Orion isn’t here, and none of you can control me.

Rowan: “…”

“Understood.”

Five minutes later, everyone camped inside the extermination livestream stared until their nearly fell out.

Their fingers moved just as wildly, hammering the chat at speeds they had never achieved before.

[Your Grace! What are you doing?! Listen to your loyal servant just once. Stop fooling around, be good, and get back on the starship! Tiny black cat screaming.jpg]

[General Ashford! Look at your husband! Come control him right now! Aaaaaaaaaah!]

[What are the rest of you doing?! How could you let His Grace expose himself in front of the insectoids? Strip them of rank! Every last one of them!]

[We wanted His Grace to come back and protect us, but we never asked him to fight on the front line himself!]

Chapter 445 Bait Above the Clouds

* Finished

The screen filled with comments such as [Protect His Grace], [Your Grace, please behave], and [Orion, control your husband]. None stopped their delicate, beautiful, national-treasure-level Omega Sovereign from jumping off the starship.

Julian slipped both hands into his pockets and stood atop Mercury Trade Tower, the tallest and most famous building on the planet.

Clouds rolled beneath him. The entire world stretched below.

Black hair stirred in the breeze. Julian’s expression remained cool and his gaze indifferent, as though he had always belonged above the clouds. He showed none of the anxiety an Omega was expected to feel before an insectoid swarm.

Rowan and Marston stood to either side in military uniform, one elegant and composed, the other broad-shouldered and commanding.

With two top-tier Alphas silently flanking Julian, the racing livestream comments suddenly stopped.

Several seconds passed before a few fearless viewers spoke again.

[Is it just me, or does His Grace look completely otherworldly while General Marston and Lieutenant General Rowan look like two oversized bodyguards standing beside him?]

[Same. I swear my head has started playing some ancient cheesy anthem about an unruly heiress. My toes are curling from the cringe, but… why does it fit so well?]

[Oh dear, oh dear, nobody can stop the young lady now~]

While StarNet turned the scene into a meme, Alkaid shot from Julian’s psychic sea.

The Thousand-Petal Azure Lotus expanded at once and released its full spiritual manifestation. Waves of healing psychic power rolled outward in widening circles, raising the combat strength of every Alpha and Beta on the battlefield.

Yet the strongest insectoids present were only S-rank.

Julian had never come down to heal anyone.

He was fishing.

And fishing was a matter of practice.
