Chapter 6 Isn’t That Just Precious?
“Critical system failure.”
“Antigrav system has completely failed. Backup power connection unsuccessful…”
The shuttle plummeted at terrifying speed. A violent ringing filled Julian’s ears, and dizziness crashed over him in the same instant.
“Alert. Uncontrolled vertical descent detected. All cadets, immediately assume crash brace position.”
“Repeat. Assume crash brace position immediately.”
“Damn it!”
Merrick slammed the control panel several times, but nothing he did changed the shuttle’s fall.
“No choice. Prepare to eject!”
He pressed the ejection button, then immediately rushed toward Talia, who was screaming beside him.
Julian had heard from Noah the day before that Talia and Merrick were dating.
As a Beta, Julian should have received help from the Alphas too, but Cole and Silas clearly had no intention of bothering with him.
Silas simply ignored him.
Cole, on the other hand, watched Julian with a mocking look, as if waiting for the Beta to scream and beg him for help.
But who was Julian?
A top-tier independent cultivator who had once flown on a sword and shattered the boundary of an entire continent by himself.
So what if he had to be ejected?
Then the emergency impact cocoon wrapped around him, launched him skyward, dragged him back down, and smashed him into the ground so hard he briefly reconsidered every life choice he had ever made.
Julian: “…”
He had planned to break free of the cocoon and use his movement technique to land on his own.
Unfortunately, the cocoon was too safe.
It wrapped him so tightly that escape was out of the question.
He could not even move.

Luckily, the cocoon automatically loosened after landing, exposing him to the air again
At the same time, aboard the Northstar, the three accompanying instructors were watching the main screen with grim expressions.
One Alpha instructor sneered.
“Two-thirds of the thousand-plus shuttles crashed, including several from the 62 core squads. With skills like that, these kids think they’re ready for the battlefield?”.
“The planet’s gravity did experience an abnormal fluctuation just now, but it lasted only a short time.” The female Beta instructor pushed up her glasses, clearly unimpressed with the candidates as well. “They were still too careless.”
Only the Omega instructor smiled.
“But isn’t that the whole point? The children need a lesson. Besides, we didn’t allow their mechas to carry firepower this time. That should put plenty of pressure on them.”
None of the three noticed that although the planetary gravity monitor was no longer flashing red, the wave patterns on the screen had brushed against the danger line several times.
It did not look like a coincidence.
It looked as if something was deliberately controlling it.
“You told me this wasn’t dangerous! If I’d known this would happen, I never would have come!”
In one corner of the vast industrial city, Julian was still dazed from the crash when he suffered a second shock.
He looked toward the voice and saw the squad’s only Omega pull herself out of Merrick’s arms, shrieking at the three Alphas.
Not every healing Omega had to participate in field assessments.
Omegas were usually considered delicate and physically fragile, so the academy allowed them to choose a gentler psychic healing exam instead.
Those who chose actual combat usually did it either to polish their record or because they genuinely wanted to improve.
Talia was obviously not the second type.
“Talia, calm down. That was an accident.” Merrick’s voice softened completely, nothing like the way he spoke to Julian. “Look, you’re fine, aren’t you?”
Cole and Silas also joined in, doing their best to comfort her.
As for the Beta who had landed the farthest away?
Julian who?
Fortunately, Julian had always relied on himself as an independent cultivator.
