Outcast Omega Pampered by the Alpha General novel Chapter 8

Chapter 8 Now That Was a Fight

“What a joke. A handful of B-rank insectoids, and you already had to call for help?”

Merrick’s bright red mecha kicked out, driving its leg straight through a B-rank insectoid.

On the other side, Cole was not as flashy as Merrick, but his A-rank brown bear spirit form was still strong enough to tear back and forth through B-rank insectoids.

As for Squad B523, the team they had come to rescue…

Their three mechas were clearly much slower. Without spirit forms assisting them, they were constantly being ambushed and damaged by insectoids from the side.

They were all on the same combat channel, so Julian knew the members of Squad B523 had heard Merrick’s

insults.

They simply did not dare talk back.

After all, among the three thousand squads in this assessment, the 62 core squads were labeled S. The nearly thousand squads led by Alphas were labeled A. Every squad beginning with B was led by Betas.

Alphas and Omegas looking down on ordinary Betas was nothing new.

It was like prodigies looking down on ordinary cultivators.

But people as classless as Merrick and his group were still rare.

“Warning-warning.”

“Squad B637 is requesting assistance. Coordinates are…”

To everyone’s surprise, before they had even finished wrapping things up here, Merrick’s wrist terminal rang again.

Aboard the Northstar, the three supervising instructors were still watching the various squads.

“Zerath used to be a contested world, after all. The military already swept it once, leaving mostly C-ranks. B-ranks, and a few scattered A-ranks, but that’s still more than enough to make these kids suffer.”

The Alpha instructor crossed his arms, watching the scene with satisfaction.

Growth required combat.

How could they grow without fighting?

“Caelan Rookwood’s group is performing beautifully. His compatibility rating with Elias Whitmore isn’t low, and once they work together, it’s almost unfair to the insectoids.”

The Omega instructor’s eyes were still curved in a smile, clearly pleased with her most outstanding student.

Only the female Beta instructor kept frowning.

The Beta squads were calling for help too often.

So often that it did not feel normal.

Inside an old mecha factory, Julian raised his pistol and shot two C-rank insectoids in the smoothly rolling behind cover.

Then a chubby figure grabbed him in a hug.

“You’re insane, Julian! You actually survived Merrick’s squad, the one even dogs wouldn’t join! You’re amazing!”

Julian: “…”

He pushed Noah away.

Julian had not expected the squad requesting help this time, B1589, to be Noah’s squad.

Unlike Julian, whose clothes were still neat, this all-Beta squad was covered in dust and grime. Their captain and deputy captain had both suffered mecha damage from the insectoids, and they were badly injured as well.

“That goddamn A-rank insectoid! A-rank! We didn’t even get a good look at it!”

Noah waved his hands wildly as he spoke, while Julian took out a portable med unit and began treating them.

Only then did Talia finally walk elegantly into the cover under Silas’s protection. She did not even glance at Julian, Noah, or the others.

After three days of training, the young lady no longer screamed at the sight of insectoids.

But she still hated the environment on Zerath, so that pretty face of hers stayed cold and unhappy most of

the time.

The awkward silence did not last long.

Soon, the ground beneath them began shaking violently.

“What’s going on?”

Talia turned to ask Silas, while Julian immediately looked outside the cover.

When Noah’s squad had requested help, they had mentioned encountering an A-rank insectoid.

Because of that, Merrick and Cole had not entered the cover after arriving. Instead, they were patrolling outside in their mechas.

As the highest-ranked insectoids in this assessment, A-ranks were naturally important targets for the core squads.

As long as Merrick could kill one A-rank, he was confident his squad could break into the top ten.

Now, it seemed they were about to get what they wanted.

Julian narrowed his eyes.

Outside the cover, the sand churned violently. A massive shadow several times larger than a B-rank insectoid slowly crawled out of the ground, armored in a thick carapace, with a long tail tipped by a sharp stinger.

With a roar, it swung the huge pincers in front of it straight at Cole’s earth-yellow mecha.

“Cole, watch out! It’s an A-rank Tarric Scorpion!”

Merrick shouted through the comms.

Insectoids generally had stronger bodies and greater power than humans of the same rank, which meant Cole, who was also A-rank, might not be a match for this thing.

“Damn bug!”

Cole roared. His mecha and brown bear spirit form moved at the same time, clashing head-on with the Tarric Scorpion.

When the dust cleared, Cole had successfully blocked the scorpion’s attack.

Merrick’s blazing hound and mecha arrived at the same time, and both sides fell into a fierce fight.

“Hahahaha! An A-rank insectoid isn’t so special after all!”

Cole’s laughter came through the squad channel, making Talia let out a deep breath of relief.

Julian, however, did not relax.

In his previous life, he had reached half-step ascension, and his soul was extremely powerful. Even now, trapped inside this weak body, his perception was still far beyond everyone else present.

“Don’t celebrate too early. In ten minutes at most, this place will turn into a mini swarm.”

“Nonsense.”

Talia looked at Julian with disgust.

In her eyes, Julian had always been the freeloader of the squad.

But Silas gave Julian a surprised look and immediately spoke into the squad channel.

“My sparrowhawk has spotted a lot of mantis-types and, winged locust-types closing in. You’d better finish off that Tarric Scorpion quickly.”

“Understood.”

At critical moments, Merrick did not hesitate. He immediately drove the blazing hound toward the Tarric Scorpion and had it breathe fire across the giant scorpion’s back.

Cole and the brown bear were responsible for restraining the scorpion’s tail stinger, while the sparrowhawk descended from the sky, hooking its sharp claws into the scorpion’s head.
